redobbie….Stents replacements may vary from anywhere three to 12 months. The average duration appears to be three to six months. In our case, the stent was placed right through the tumor and yes, bile and growths of the tumor necessitated stent replacements. The metal stent can be cleaned out when necessary therefore, it will not become a replacement issue. On the average we also had a CT scan once every three months.

Hi all..my brother has the klatskin tumor, he lives in Germany…question: he keeps getting infections in the duct stent he has…they may replace the plastic one with a metal one now…anyway…could the klatskin tumor be getting bigger and pressing on the duct, as why it is getting blocked? I know it gets blocked with the bile, but why is this happening so frequently is my question? He hasn’t had a CAT scan in two months! He asks the doctors and they say they will look into him getting a CAT scan it for next time..its ridiculous…could it be from the tumor getting bigger?
