Oh, you are all so fantastic! Thank you so much for your quick replies!
Stupid me, I forgot to mention that when the doctor finally operated her, he removed the stent – which had already caused inflammation in the area. He was also really angry with the first doctors’ diagnosis.
I guess there is something to be said about Greece and its doctors, especially in the smaller city hospitals. In fact, when we were in search for a new doctor, I actually checked this website hoping that I could get some information about good doctors in Greece – if anyone else is looking, please, e-mail me! Our surgeon is an amazing person – and fantastic doctor.
So the blood tests have indicated that there is something wrong with my mum’s reconstructed bile duct. She is on antibiotics at the moment and will have a new scan pretty soon. She has not had any chemo for the last month, which is a bit worrying, but she is going back tomorrow and hopeflly she will manage to get one.
and, no, I don’t know what the coctail that has replaced Gem is. I haven’t been able to get hold of the onc but trying to convince my mother to ask him – but she somehow finds it scary to ask questions.
thanks again so much for the quick response!

September 19, 2011 at 11:03 pm #53034lainySpectatorDear MK, welcome to our wonderful family where you will find the most couragous and caring people from all over the world.
As if CC was not hard enough the distance can be just awful. Normally, fever means infection and she may have one in the stent. Easy to take care of but it can really bring one down making them tired and not able to eat much. It is not unusual for the ONC to change the “cocktail” of chemo he is giving. Are you able to call this ONC and talk with him? Your report sounded pretty precise so I am thinking someone is taking notes or that you are in touch with the ONC. Wishing your Mom and you the best and please keep us posted.September 19, 2011 at 10:44 pm #53033gavinModeratorHi MK,
Welcome to the site. Sorry that you had to find us all and I am sorry to hear about your mum as well. But you have come to the right place for support and help and you will get tons of each here.
I am very glad to hear that your mum did not just go with her first doctors diagnosis and that she found a doctor that could and would do surgery for her. Do you know what chemo cocktail your mum has been moved to after being on the Gem/Cis combo that she was on previously? That is great to hear that your mums tumours have not grown in the last 6 months. As to the fever, it could be down to your mums stents clogging right now. Do you know if your mums stents are plastic or metal, and if they are plastic, when were they last changed? I’m not saying that is the case at all here, but it could be a possibility. Have your mums doctors talked with your mum about the chances of stents clogging?
I know that you must be so worried, especially so as you are not able to be there with your mum right now. We are all here for here. If you have questions then ask away and we will do what we can to help in answering them. And please, know that we are all here for you. We know what you are going through right now and we care.
My best wishes to you and your mum,
Gavin
