My father, and friend

I have not yet introduced myself to the site. My name is Lana Selby. My father Warren was diagnosed with this horrible disease March 26th 2007. No prior health problems. Urine started turning brown, went in for the work-up and got a slap in the face. Desperate for hope, he has undergone 3 rounds of chemoembolization at Mayo. Was told the tumor 10cmx13cm was too large for most interventions. Was also told he had a rare type-intrahepatic, that is in the worst place possible. First visit to Mayo- doctor told him that there was nothing he could do, gave him 6-9 months, told to go home and basically die. As he walked out the door, talked to his nurse and decided to consult with radio-oncologist, thus the chemoembolization. We met with this doctor and totally embraced, believed in him as he offered us not a cure, but to prolong my father’s life a bit. He promised!! He told us that the tumor was shrinking. 3 weeks after the 3rd round of chemo, my father was ill with diarrhea, abd pain. We flew him back to Mayo, he was told tumor was indeed growing. How can this be possible when we were told it was shrinking? Now we are seeking a second opinion. I have paperwork in process to go to Sloan Kettering. I am in a fight against time as I feel my father is getting worse-depressed also.

To all of you, I can not thank you enough for being an inspiration to my family through this emotional roller coaster. I am a Nurse Practitioner, and can tell all of you, this experience has changed my life. I have a much greater compassion for all people diagnosed with any kind of cancer, and can certainly say, I know what this emotional roller coaster feels like. The worst part of this whole mess is that I want so badly to save my father……my friend.
