Dear Cat,
Welcome to this group, so sorry you had to find us. Sending tons of good thoughts and prayers to you and your mother.
MelindaSeptember 1, 2015 at 8:25 am #89570middlesister1ModeratorCat,
I also want to add my welcome to our group. You have found a group of people who also had to learn what CC is, and can understand the fright that goes along with hearing the diagnosis.
We are here for you.
Best wishes,
CatherineAugust 31, 2015 at 9:22 pm #89569gavinModeratorHi Cat,
Welcome to the site and I am so sorry to hear about your mum and what you both are going through right now. As the others have said, you are in the bet place for support and help and will get so much of that from everyone here. My dad went through hospice care here in Scotland as well and I so know how scary this is for you and can relate to your feeling lost.
Where in the Uk are you if you do not mind me asking? Please can you give us some more info on your mum if you can. I assume that this was your mums specialist or oncologist that said that the stents were not working and did they not say anything about trying to change them or anything like that?
You are not alone in having never having heard of this cancer until it strikes a loved one, most of us were like that as well the first time that we heard of CC. I know as well that you most probably feel alone right now in dealing with all of this but please know that you are not alone, we are here with you know and we care.
Hugs,
Gavin
August 31, 2015 at 6:10 pm #89568marionsModeratorCat…..I too am sorry to hear of the developments. This is a frightening situation, but within all this fear you must muster strength to investigate whether any further options are available to your Mom. Do you know why the stent is ineffective? Who diagnosed your Mom?
Please stay with us, we are here to help and to stand by your side.
Hugs,
MarionAugust 31, 2015 at 5:25 pm #89567malinger2SpectatorHi Cat, I’m sorry about your mom’s diagnosis. It is indeed a very scary thing to hear and process. I agree with Lainy that a second or third opinion will give you peace of mind that you have exhausted all avenues for treament. I have no words of wisdom, just an offer of prayers for your mum and your family. I know that maintaining a positive attitude, which is oft times difficult, will ease the daily confusion, anger, disbelief.
You have indeed come to the right place as there is a wealth of information with each and every member of this forum. Prayers for strength and comfort.
Melinda AAugust 31, 2015 at 2:54 pm #89566lainySpectatorDear Cat, welcome to our remarkable family and I am so very sorry about your Mum. I don’t believe many of us had ever heard of CC before a loved one was diagnosed with it. It is like being hit with a baseball bat in the stomach. Usually when treatment begins the fright of the diagnosis turns to fight but in you Mum’s case it is a double whammy!
Have you thought of getting another opinion? We are big believers in 2nd and even 3rd opinions. May I ask where Mum is being treated and what age she is?
Please know that you have come to the right place for support and other will be checking in soon. You never know how strong you are until “strong” is the only choice you have!August 31, 2015 at 6:17 am #11645cat03SpectatorHi , I’m new to all this and came across your wonderful site while I was looking for answers. Mum was diagnosed 8weeks ago with CC. As a family we had never heard of this awful Cancer before. Mum had been fighting for months as she was not feeling herself. She was not jaundice with no spread at the time of referral but the risk of surgery was felt to be too great. . I am lost as the timeframe has been so quick , she was given 6 months. She is now very poorly In a hospice as the stents did not work. I have been reading your posts and they have helped but I feel helpless x
