Dear Bill&Lulu – welcome to this amazing site. My sister is due to start Gemzar/Cisplatin combination next week. I hope I’ll get more information about it then but, in the meantime, thank you for your post. I’m sorry I can’t help with your question but I send my very best wishes to you both.

Bill.. Currently, two drugs are being used to stimulate bone marrow to increase the growths of white blood cells: filgrastim (trade name Neupogen) and pegylated filgrastim (trade name Neulasta). We have several postings regarding either drug. This site has 2 search functions: One is on the top right hand side of the page (google engine) and the other one is located on the top (dark green) between “Rules” and “Profile”. There is much information hidden in the thread of the great members on this site which, I consider “invaluable” when being confronted with this disease. Of course, you will want to discuss all information with your physician but, it really helps to be prepared with knowledge and information beforehand.

My wife had Choledochal cyst when she was 1.5 years old,
she took Choledochal cyst operation – ROX-Y surgery but they didn’t remove the
cyst. more doctors believe it’s Bile duct cancer caused by Choledochal cyst.We are living in Chandler, AZ. we went to Mayo Clinic Scottsdale and University Of Arizona
cancer center. Mayo Clinic offered clinic trial which is in phase 1 and 2. now we decided to start Chemotherapy in UOA cancer center. How do you think her
stage 2 response to the chemotherapy? since the cancer spread into liver, oncologist said surgery is not
option although we didn’t see tumor in other places except liver.Are there any medicines can help my wife boost whit blood counts?

BillHello Bill and welcome o the best little club in the world that no one wishes to have to join! And welcome neighbor. If you mean Chandler AZ we live in SUn Lakes! Teddy is a 4 year survivor of a Whipple Surgery. I must tell you we have the very best in doctors.
Oncologist – Jack Cavalcant – Banner Desert Hospital – will use trials.
Radiologist – John Kresl – Banner Samaritan (did cyber knife and radiation on Teddy)
Dr. James Cashman was director of liver transplants at Banner Samaritan. Used him as a consultant and he treated Teddy after his Whipple surgery.Who are you using? IF you are in Chandler Az and wish to meet or to talk just send me an e mail. We are going to Dr. Kresl at 2PM tpday as Teddy’s last scan showed a new spot and his A has jumped from 11 in August to 109 3 weeks ago. The combo your wife is on for chemo has become a very popular duo.

I’m sorry to hear about your wife. I’m certain that many of your questions can be answered by the caring members of this site.
I was wondering about the fever, which usually means an infection. Does your wife have any stents for bile duct blockage? Does she have a disease called PSC? Or perhaps is her tumor blocking her ducts? You would most likely have this info by checking her blood counts. Some higher numbers usually signify an obstruction. I’m not certain that the chemo itself would cause the fever – atleast not from my mother’s experience with fevers and chemo.Do they know the origination of the cancer? Pancreas vs liver?
Where are you located? This discussion board has a section of hospitals and doctors recommended by the members if you feel you need another opinion. We generally suggest more than one for CC, as it is so rare.

Welcome to the site, although I am sorry that you have to be here. I can’t help you with your specific question regarding chemo as my dad has not undergone that treatment, but I just wanted to stop by and welcome you.
Here you will find a ton of support for you and your wife and we are all a very friendly bunch. I’m certain that someone will be along soon who can help you with your question. Also, you can use the search forum function on the site to look for posts from other members regarding chemo etc.

My wife has been diagnosed with Pancreatic or Bile duct cancer recently. it’s spread into Liver. She is so young, just 35 years. we have two babies. my heart has been broken into pieces. I want to try my best to save her at whatever the cost. I am ready to move to anycity if we can get the best treatment. Her oncologist suggested to start from Chemotherapy. she too it (Gemzar 600mg/m2 + Cisplatin 25mg/m2 once every two weeks) last Wednesday (Oct 14). We have seen two stages by observing her status after Chemotherapy:
Stage 1 (Day 1 ~ Day 4) – She took chemotherapy on Wednesday afternoon (Oct 14). She didn’t have strong side effection during the whole daytime of Thursday. But she got fever since 9pm and upto 101.5 at 1150pm. The oncologist on call suggested us to go to ER in Chandler. We stayed in hospital for 3 days and discharged this Monday (Oct, 19).
Stage 2 (Day 5~ Day
– She back home on Day 5 (Oct 19), Her pain is reduced to grade 2~3 compare to her pain at grade 5~6 before Chemotherapy. she doesn’t feel strong nausea, never vomiting. she can sleep 6~8 hours a day with the assistance from sleep medicine. she can eat 3 meals, 2 snacks in between meals and 1 snack before night sleep. we suggested her to take some exercise, but she still feel very easy to get tired although she doesn’t have more dizzy as side effect from sleep medicine. She caught a cough without running nose.since I know many of you have lots of expereince about Chemotherapy, May I get your opinion and advices for the treatment and explanation on her two stages response?
