I am Canadian as well, from Burlington Ontario living in cold Thunder Bay! I hope that you will ask as many questions as needed while on this bored. No question is a silly one. People here are oh-so-helpful! I imagine you are going to be a great advocate for your friend’s mother! Sorry you had to find us, but I assure you you will be happy you did.
Blessings and many hugs from the cold north,
Ashlea

you can try this web site…. clinical centers of excellence / cholangiocarcinoma/canada…. i hope it helps… ronMarch 25, 2009 at 2:47 pm #27637cherbourgSpectatorDear Daniela,
I sense that you will be a wonderful friend and advocate for Maria and your best friend!
One word of advice….Ask lots of questions and take notes! Write down questions as they occur to you and make sure you get answers that you understand. The medical field can be intimidating (I know since I work in it) but don’t ever hesitate to push to get the information you need.
This journey is not one that any of us wants to take but at least we are all traveling together.
Welcome to the site and let us know how we can help. We are all only a keystroke away.
Hugs to you and yours!

Read, read and read some more. Then feel free here to ask, advise and to vent. I was in Hamilton many years ago and had dinner at the Shakespeare Steak House.
Loved the Toronto area. We all need good advocates. Please keep usposted on Maria.March 24, 2009 at 11:26 pm #27632walkMemberHi Daniela,
What a wonderful support you are for your friend. Your efforts are invaluable to someone in his position.
BTW, I spent a wonderful couple weeks in Burlington and Hamilton areas a few years ago.
Welcome,
Jan
March 24, 2009 at 10:35 pm #27631marionsModeratorHello Daniela. An official welcome to the site. Here is a physician familiar with Cholangiocarcinoma you might also want to contact:
Sean P. Cleary, BScH, MD, MSc, FRCSC
Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery
University Health Network
Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital
Tel: 416.340.533I remember speaking with him, last year, and he mentioned that if a Cholangiocarcinoma patient is in the Hospital, he is the one they will see.
I hope this helped.
Good luck and many good wishes for Maria
MarionMarch 24, 2009 at 9:56 pm #2146danielaSpectatorHi, my name is Daniela. I’m from Toronto, Canada.
I visit the site almost daily since finding out that my one of best friend’s mother (Maria) was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma. I visit to read stories of others, try and gain some knowledge and just gives me the sense that he and his mom aren’t alone fighting this. He and I research endlessly trying to find some help here in Canada, we’ve also been researching and emailing all over the USA for information and second opinions on her case.
I spend each moment of my freetime researching (endless reading) and emailing and if I’m not at my desk I try to be comforting or annoying in other ways
I look forward to helping other Canadians and hearing from you all.
Maria has just begun her fight and I am ever so hopeful that we’ll find something to help her. -
