May 29, 2009 at 11:07 pm #28964rosemccuskerMemberHi jim, I have just logged on after a number of weeks. I have just said a prayer for you. My partner (and husband to be!) is visiting in Serbia for the past 10 days. He was diagnosed last Nov 08 and although he had a rough time with chemo from Jan to March, he is doing fine right now. Welcome to this unfortunate club… but you will find many friends and much support here.
Good luck and keep positiveRose

Awesome news on the ERCP.
I wish that I had found this forum previous to my whipple surgery.
We were told nothing of what to expect after surgery, and as each thing come up, the Dr. would then say, yeah, that is normal after such a procedure! I wanted to smack him. He could have told me beforehand what to expect, and how long to to expect it. Dummy me , was so overwhelmed , I failed to ask about anything!!You are going into this Knowing what can happen, as they say prepare for the worst, expect the best! I would not wish this on anyone and as I said, will be sending good thoughts and prayers your way!
Oh, and the surgeon, wanted me to rush into chemo, before I was recovered from the surgery. However, when I did get in to see an Oncologist, he did not think chemo would was needed.
I have had two clean scans since Feb. and pray they stay clean!

Have you had an ERCP, yet? Yes, it was done on May 6th and cancer/tumor is localized in the Bile Duct and they do not think its spread anywhere.
I love Chicken Noodle soup, so I am OK with that! No carbonated drinks will be hard on me at 1st, but it will be OK
Thanks for the great encouragement
Make it a Great Day !

May 19, 2009 at 1:25 pm #28952lainySpectatorHi Jim. I would like to add to the comments here even though I already posted to you. Teddy had a double Whipple (almost 4 years ago)as the first one was aborted after 4 hours. He is 76 and doing fine. He never got nauseous with either one. It is a lengthy recovery so gather up your patience. He takes Prevacid every morning, retired last December, golfs 2 times a week and when people see him they cannot believe what he has been through. The cancer returned where the duodenum used to be last April. He had radiation during the summer and in December had cyber knife and the little monster is gone, again. We keep a watchful eye with monthly LABS and visits to the ONC every 2 months. Bloating is the biggest problem for him but then if he would be more careful with how he eats he would not bloat as much. Stubborn Sicilian you know. Please feel free to e mail me if you have any questions. And please let us know how you are doing.
May 19, 2009 at 11:50 am #28951kristinSpectatorDear Jim,
Welcome! We’re so glad you found us. Please come to us with all your questions, and if you just need to vent.
And, not to contradict Jill, I think it’s important to remember that everyone’s experience is different, and you may find that your healing from surgery goes along a different track. I have a friend who had whipple surgery for a different form of cancer (neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas) and though she lost a ton of weight, she didn’t suffer from nausea and was able to go back to work part time after a couple months. (I think it helped that she loves her job.)
In the surgery I had, my bile duct, gall bladder, and half my liver was removed. Yeah, I felt like I’d been hit by a truck, but I was up and about after two weeks or so, and working again after a month (I work out of a home office, so that made it much easier.
All I can say is, expect the unexpected! Some things will be easier than people say, and others harder. But we’re all here for you, so please check back often.
With my best wishes,
Kristin
