    Hi Kay,
I’m sorry to hear about your dad. It sounds to me as though radiation and chemo are a good plan. Surgery can be tough on people, especially older people. The treatment will make him tired, but if you and other family members are there to support him, it will make a big difference.

Hi Kay, I too am sorry to hear that your Dad’s cancer has returned. Have you considered second opinions on treatment options? My own Dad’s treatment plan consisted of all three standard options, chemo to start, radiation as phase II, and if the combo of these two was to shrink the mass just a bit- then phase III was to attempt resection. While we lost my Dad in March, and he never made it past chemo, I wanted to tell you that that 9 out of 10 docs said that they would NOT radiate or resect- and only one team was aggressive enough to maintain such a plan. So there are definitely variations on opinions and potential treatment options.

Wishing you and your family strength.

Hi Kay. Very sorry that your dad’s cancer has returned. Unfortunately it goes with our territory. In fact its about the only thing we know for sure abut CC is that it returns which is why we must keep a watchful eye. I am wondering if you could ask your dad’s doctor about Cyber Knife. It is the latest and greatest and with less side effects. They can not use it on everything but it would not hurt to ask. My husband had it last December, his was a different area being where the duodenum used to be but it has worked beautifully.

    Hi all,

Well all of dads tests came back and it looks like the cancer came back. The surgeon said it is localized in a lymph node in the portal??? I guess maybe that is the space between the bile duct and liver??? He said it is not in the liver. He suggested that chemo and radiation should work work for this but he doesnt want to do surgery because he would want to still do the chemo and radiation which would probably be the same result. We are all in shock as he would have been 2 years cancer free in October. Can any one give me some idea what to expect from the chemo and radiation for him? Also, will this get any other cancer cells that are thinking about growing. Thank you all for your great advice. If it wasnt for this site I would be lost. I only wish I had more advice for everyone else :) I am still a little new at this.

    xo
