My wife’s biopsy was done was done through an ERCP. As I understand it, as they passed by the gall bladder & lymph nodes, they could see that they were affected & sampled through the internal endoscopy tube. Pretty amazing that they can install stents, take biopsies and perform radio frequency ablation all through the tube.

Al…a biopsy involves removal of tumor tissue.

Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC): A procedure used to x-ray the liver and bile ducts. A thin needle is inserted through the skin below the ribs and into the liver. Dye is injected into the liver or bile ducts and an x-ray is taken. A sample of tissue is removed and checked for signs of cancer.

Laparoscopy : A surgical procedure to look at the organs inside the abdomen, such as the bile ducts and liver, to check for signs of cancer. Small incisions (cuts) are made in the wall of the abdomen and a laparoscope (a thin, lighted tube) is inserted into one of the incisions. Other instruments may be inserted through the same or other incisions to perform procedures such as taking tissue samples to be checked for signs of cancer.

Thanks, Ali, ……this is a single case study of one patient treated with Gem/Cis and the added Epidermal Growth Factor, called (EGFR). EGFR is a type of protein found on the surface of cells in the body. However, when this protein is mutated and becomes too active, it can lead to cancer growth. Some cholangiocarcinoma patients have this particular mutation identified with molecular testing.

    Molecular testing involves a biopsy.

    Hope this helped,

New studies show a possible benefit of combining Gemcitabine,
Oxaliplatin and Cetuximab for the treatment of intrahepatic tumors.

If interested you can read the whole article : http://www.oncologica.com.br/pdf/Cholangio.pdf
