Hellon inky….I am sorry to hear about your Dad. As Gavin has mentioned you would want to speak to your Dad’s physician regarding the current symptoms. They may want to run a blood test and/or scans. The bloating and pain in his abdomen need to be addressed. Hopefully, your Dad will feel better by the time you read this. Please, stay in touch. We care.
Best wishes,
MarionOctober 5, 2010 at 10:52 am #42553gavinModeratorHi Inky,
Welcome to the site but I am sorry that you have to be here and I am sorry to hear about your dad. My dad was diagnosed back in 2008 and his CC was also deemed inoperable. My dad never had chemo or radiation so I can’t talk about that, but he did have the stomach bloating that you are talking of. Does your dad have any other swelling such as in his legs or ankles? It could be a build up of fluid or ascites that your dad has and there are things that can be done for that. Here is a link that may help –
I would speak with your dads doctors about this as soon as you can as there are things that can be done such as draining or diuretics. Also, if you use the search function at the top of the page and type in ascites or bloating then that will throw up other discussions about this. Hopefully others will be along soon that can also help with this. Please let us all know how your dad gets on with this as we will all be here for you.
Best wishes to you and your dad,
Gavin

Dad just finished his 8 rounds of chemo and has had no other treatment, so unfortunately I can’t comment on anything else. We are waiting to see if they can see any changes on CT, should get results next week.
I hope your Dad can find some relief for his pain soon!! It’s such a tough battle for everyone involved – thinking of you all.

Sorry to hear of your father’s condition. My father was also 86 when diagnosed. I think for patients that old, many doctors view surgery as risky and therapy as too debilitating. I can only speak from my experience, but for my dad, the choices were 6 months of side effects to maybe get 6 additional months. My dad chose to forgo treatment and enjoy the time he had left. He lived a little over 10 months from diagnosis.
Ultimately, the decision is your father’s and I am sure he knows he has your support.
Best of luck,
Jan
October 4, 2010 at 10:23 pm #4116inkyMemberHi, I’m new to this site. my Dad was diagnosed in January 2010 with a very badly located site of CC. His is right on the branches where the main bile duct splits into 2 sections. his is right on the Y. It cannot be ressected. We live in Canada, and we do have a great cancer centre, but it is sad to keep hearing that this is palliative only. he has had chemo and brachytherapy..but the chemo stopped working after 6 treatments.
He just finished 10 days of radiation on august 25th and started getting bloating and stomach aches about a week later. Has anyone experienced that and found out what causes it? Right now, his spirits are low because this stomach problem is really bothering him.
He is 86, and has NEVER had any health issues at all, not even blood pressure etc. Last year he had both hips replaced, so that he could enjoy the rest of his life…then this happened. I need more hope now. -
