MarionI just wanted to mention something about the Susan B Komen Foundation in that they are actively involved and contribute to many other organizations in various ways. For instance: Two years ago my attendance as advocate had been supported by the Susan B Komen Foundation. In fact, at ASCO they are contributors to many events.
Even Farrah Fawcett complained that the glamour cancers received all sorts of attention while the rare cancers don’t.
I don’t see that problem changing in the near future. Thank God for the American Cancer Society that provides research for all types of cancer.
I am tempted to call the Susan B Komen foundation and ask for help and lie and tell them I have breast cancer. Why the hell not? I need help.
You should here my bestfriend when I complain about glamour cancers…she agrees, and laughs. She said (it is really quite sick), your best bet is to get someone famous to have the disease to get any notice or funding. She said she is lucky though because people cant help but throw money at children’s cancer (which she researches)…oh the politics of research and funding.

The research in to cancers such as breast, or lung, or prostate, etc. will in evidently lead to findings pertaining to the more rarer form of cancers such as, CC.

about a new treatment for breast cancer based on BRAC1 and BRAC2 pathways. These pathways are part of the problem with abnormal cells. Well, the new treatment targets these pathways and helps cure breast cancer. The drug is classified as a PARP inhibitor. There are several trials for other cancers and it is very successful.GREAT news because a google search made me find out we are BRAC2 related!!!! I talked to my bestfriend the oncologist about this and apparently her rare cancer she specialises in is also BRAC2 and she said that from what she gathers from conferences, these new therapies are very good and are being sped through the trial and FDAapproval process.
After being bitter about all the money that breast cancer gets for research compared to us, I am finally smiling. Their research is going to benefit us! Lets hope it transfers to cc anyway and that it comes to fruition for many of us to benefit.
****I am still sick of feeling like the bastard step child in cancer research. and I still hate the lack of funding, research, and awareness of our cancer, but I am relieved to know that the research done for the glamour cancers can benefit us!
