Welcome Julygirl.
I hope you get that surgery. We have many people here from the UK. I actually had my surgery in Edinburgh (I was diagnosed while attending a wedding there). Which part of the country are you in? There are a couple of experts on cc and it might be beneficial if you make contact with them. Professor Lodge I think in Leeds and then there is someone else (I think in London). If surgery is not an option, Britain just got a cyberknife machine so you can also check that out.Best of luck and warm wishes.

TessMarch 26, 2009 at 9:22 pm #27719lainySpectatorWelcome, July Girl, to the best little club in the world that no one wishes to join.
My husband had a Whipple 3 1/2 years ago, yep and he is now 76 and doing quite well. His CC was contained in the bile duct valve. It did return last April where the duodenum used to be but after radiation over the summer and then cyber knife in December he is now totally back to normal. Sounds like you pretty well know what is going on and yes you are right the last 2 tests are to zero in on exactly what is going on. I am so glad you found us as no one is alone here, we are all family. Please feel free to ask, advise or just plain old vent. And please do keep us informed. Good luck on the tests.March 26, 2009 at 9:11 pm #2154julygirlMemberHello everyone. I am newly diagnosed and just trying to take in all the information at the moment. After suffering jaundice for a couple of weeks I was admitted to hospital for tests here in York. The preliminary blood tests showed obstructive jaundice. I had been itching for several weeks prior to the jaundice.
Then had a barrage of tests, including CT Scan, ultrasound scan, ERCP and biopsy, and placement of a plastic stent in the bile duct, where it showed I had a tumour. After 9 days in hospital I was discharged, and attended the outpatients clinic the following week, where it was confirmed. I had choliangiocarcinoma. The day after this, I had an MRI Scan, and then a week after, an Endoscopic Ultrasound Scan.
The last two tests are, I believe to stage the cancer. I am due back at the outpatients next Wednesday, where I will be told the results of all the tests, and whether I am a suitable candidate for the Whipples procedure or not. It is the “IF NOT” bit that worries me. I would rather have the OP, because I suspect that is the only way to cure this thing.
I will update you all next week to let you know the outcome.
So glad I have found this site. It’s nice not to feel alone.
bye for now.
