Hi Andie, everything I own is crossed for you and your dad. Yes, my eye as well.
July 1, 2010 at 2:53 pm #39398jemimaMemberThat’s great news that he is booked in although not so good that he is going yellow. It is crazy that the doctors have let him get to this stage without doing something sooner.
Anyway, I hope that he carries on feeling OK until the stent is changed. And yes, if he does get worse then I woudl definitely take him to A&E even if it is before Tuesday. If he starts itching etc then they can give him meds.
best wishes
JemimaJuly 1, 2010 at 1:48 pm #39397andieSpectatorDad booked in to have his stent done Wednesday. He has got to phone for a bed Tuesday, so everything crossed that there is one available!
He is starting to go yellow now so if there is no bed Tuesday I will be very tempted to take him to the A&E department. If his stent procedure is booked then it doesn’t matter if he has to sleep in A&E for 1 night!!
Keep everything crossed for us

June 30, 2010 at 9:54 pm #39395teresaMemberHya Andie I really do know how you are feeling, we had the same trouble as I have said.
Please think about trying elswhere, I have heard the Leeds hospital is really good.
However A&E IS AT THE QE NOW. (in our case it was still at selly oak)
At least he would be there if a bed became available on the liver ward.
They will not keep him too long in A&E without doing something !!!!!
Hope all goes well. For all of you at this moment in time I pray for you all.
love and light to you all Alan’s mom
June 30, 2010 at 7:57 pm #39394kr15tySpectatorHi Andie,
Just read your post cant believe they have no beds and also got to wait so long it is terrible. Don’t they realise with Cancer you cant wait for any treatment the quicker they do something the better chance of it working, i am so annoyed at them. Hope all goes to plan for you all tomorrow and your dad gets his bed.

KrisJune 30, 2010 at 3:47 pm #39391andieSpectatorHi all,
Dads clinical nurse is looking into local hospitals too. We should know one way or another tomorrow morning.
Fingers crossed !
June 30, 2010 at 2:45 pm #39390gavinModeratorHi Andie,
Just to add to what Kris has said regarding treatment/scans etc being done in various different hospitals. My dad was diagnosed at Ninewells in Dundee and treated there. But for follow up CT scans, he once had to go through to Perth for one and also up to Brechin for one. Obviously this was not ideal, but it meant that he got the scans that he needed when he was supposed to. I know getting a scan is not the same as getting a stent replaced, but if you can get a bed elsewhere then surely that would be better than waiting possibly until the end of July?
Good luck with getting this sorted asap.
Best wishes,
Gavin
June 30, 2010 at 1:23 pm #39389devoncatSpectatorI am sorry, but I cant remember where you are but when I was in Glasgow I had stuff done in Edinburgh and here in Sweden I have had scans done at a hospital in another town. Perhaps you should ask if there are places in the surrounding area that have a bed.
Best of luck.
KrisJune 30, 2010 at 12:44 pm #39388lainySpectatorHi Andie, OMG I am so upset for you and your dad! He needs the help now! Nothing more I can say as you already know it! Good Luck! To fight this CC is enough and then to take on the whole system…………Grrrrrrrrrrrr,
June 30, 2010 at 10:21 am #39387andieSpectatorHi All,
Dads clinical nurse specialist is on the case and looking for a bed either at the QE or another local hospital. Dad just phoned and the secretary knew he was waiting for a bed, Kath the Clinical Nurse was in Clinic and her secretary said she will get back to him later to update him.
The Doctor on Friday was shocked when the clinical nurse told him no beds were available until mid/end July, I think he thought they would have Dad in sooner but if there are no beds then I suppose they can’t magic one, I wish they could though!
The Doctor did say to come straight in if fevers occur or he starts to feel ill. I know he doesn’t feel ill which is great BUT this chemo needs to start and I know the longer it goes on the longer it will take to come down. To be fair to Kath she has said this too but it’s the bed shortage that’s the problem.
It’s a pity he can’t take his own bed!
June 30, 2010 at 9:54 am #39386gavinModeratorHi Andie,
Sorry to hear that things have been delayed due to there being no bed for your dad. That is not good at all. I think if I was in your shoes then I would speak to my dad and try to convince him to go to another hospital to get the stent change done ASAP. I know you say that he doesn’t want to go elsewhere and feels comfortable at the QE, but I still think I would discuss the possibility of going elsewhere.
Have you spoke with the clinical nurse or doctor about getting your dad into another hospital? And yes as you say, A&E is an option, especially if things worsen, even slightly.
Best wishes to you and your dad,
Gavin
June 30, 2010 at 9:50 am #39385katjaMemberAndie,
If your dad’s jaundice gets any worse A&E will admit him anyway – he wouldn’t have to fake symptoms – anything over 200 will probably be too much for them to ignore. Whether that will bring about stent change/unblocking is another matter.Does his consultant think it is reasonable to wait a month? So frustrating for you all, but unfortunately short of going private there is so little you can do to push it. Is there a number that you can ring daily to check on cancellations? Squeaky wheel and all that.
Yes, it’s positive that he feels ok but why can’t they see that everything will be put back? A doctor told us that it takes the same amount of time for bilirubin levels to drop as it did for them to increase.
