Oh my, you are going to be so proud of me. I did the Florida Keys and the Golden Gate Bridge. As long as I was in the car I was ok.
I am sure the wrinkles are from stress. My parents had no wrinkles and they lived in to their 90’s. They did not stress about anything. They locked out everything and only knew that the 2 of them existed. My Mom was a hoot and extremely vain but she loved T and had a crush on an Uncle of his. Too funny. I am talking when she was in her early 80’s. My Dad kept a tight rein on her. Robin is like her Grandma as is her daughter they can’t help it. lol Lexy says she comes from good genes!

Forgot to add this. I’m thinking you didn’t do the Golden Gate Bridge, huh? The Florida Keys was also not a drive Jim would attempt. I told him he could sleep and I would drive. Never did get past Miami tho’.

I keep remembering more & more instances. He would get like you. Shaking violently etc. Can’t post them all, but have to add that in the 60’s there was an amusement park called The Pike. In later years the Queen Mary was docked there. Anyway, back then it had one of the largest wooden roller coasters in the world. I did get Jim to go on it with me once. Eye’s closed. :) I on the other hand went on several times when we lived out there.

Know all about those wrinkles, too. Interesting side note. I never had wrinkles, but shortly after Jim died BAM, there they were. Stress related maybe? Like you, I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I am 66 and counting. :)

I also wore contacts for many years before having my cataract surgery and that usually causes some wrinkling around the eyes, but it didn’t for me. I agree with the doctor that Jim’s untimely death had something to due with the aging almost over night. I was 60 at the time. Wonder if anyone else experienced something similar after a stressful situation?

Sweet Darla, never apologize for smiles. Smiles are my favorite thing but I think I smile so much they are causing some wrinkles. Has nothing to do with turning 75 in a few months.
The fear is very real for heights. My legs start shaking and then I start shaking. Guess everyone thinks I am trying to dance! OMG, I remember going to Chattanooga when I was about 12 and walking over the rope bridge in Rock City. I literally froze in the middle and my Dad had to come help me. My favorite city is SFO as everything I have done there is grounded!

Oh Lainy. What a wonderful story. :)

As for the fear of heights, I never had it, but do know, through Jim, how real it is. When they built the over head walk ways in Vegas to get from one side of the street to the other Jim would look straight ahead and walk right down the middle. We took a tram across the San Diego Zoo and when he realized how high up it went he would not go back. He walked and we met him on the other end. :) He wouldn’t even go up in the arch in St. Louis and that is all enclosed. Flying did not bother him, but like you, even the second floor of a mall terrified him. Especially Mall Of America that had see through glass blocks in the floor. It must be a terrible, but very real fear.

Love NYC, but wouldn’t want to live there. I went with some friends years back. Just the “girls”. It was one of a very few place Jim had no desire to visit. We had a blast!.

Love your stories Lainy and I like you am becoming an “old timer”. :) Memories

How about this? For Teddy’s 70th Birthday I got him a hot air balloon ride over Phoenix. He LOVED it. Darla, I won’t even go on the 2nd floor of a Mall and look over the rail to the floor below.
When I was 13 we went to NYC and I would not walk up the statue of Liberty. I have to tell you all a wonderful story. My Dad was born in Wausau Wis. one of 8 siblings. His favorite niece was Marilyn who at the age of 2 was thrown from the car in an accident and lost her hearing and became a deaf/ mute. She ended up getting married to a man who was the same and lived in Brooklyn. So, we are in NYC and decide to go to Coney Island. If you have ever been there the beach is loaded with people in the summer. We stopped in the Washington bath house to hand things up in the locker and proceeded to the water but were walking in a jagged route. My Dad said, “Let’s walk as straight forward to the edge as we can so we can find our way back to this bathhouse.” We get to the edge and a lady grabs his sleeve and utters, “Uncle Norman”. It was Marilyn. Destiny! I have been so privileged to have a lot of destiny in my life. Sorry but the mention of NYC always reminds me of that. You are all wonderful to put up with this old timer!

The Grand Canyon is an amazing sight. We didn’t go for the mule ride either. Jim was afraid of heights, so didn’t appreciate it as much as me & the boys. He also only got about half way up Pike’s Peak. Waited there for us until we came back down. :) So much to see, so little time.

WHOA…….. blind mules??? I ain’t into sitting on a blindfolded mule and trusting it to lead me down the GC! Think I’d rather walk down it myself than put my faith in a blindfolded mule! That is crazy!!!

Look at it this way, do you think Uncle Duke would trust me to take that tandem down that video I posted here on the site of the mountain in Scotland with me blindfolded. And of course Duke on the back not blindfolded but me steering it with zero site due to my blindfold.

Think I know what Duke will say to that idea!!! :)

Would love to see the GC someday, looks amazing!

Cuz, It will work. I have a fear of heights. Cannot go high except in an airplane. You could also wear a parachute!!!

When I looked into the mule ride, they said people had to have no fear of heights. My reaction was that I could always close my eyes – and hope the mule was not afraid of heights and closed its eyes.

Hi, Son. Very impressive. Many people (not me) will take the trail on a donkey from top to bottom.
Know how the mules are trained??
They are blindfolded and walked down the trail late at night blindfolded! Yikes. That is why you never hear of an accident on them. Sure footed. I will leave the mules for others!
Another fun thing to do is you can take an old Steamer from Williams to the GC complete with mini lunch and outlaws robbing the train. The GC is only a few hours from Phoenix and is about 40 minutes from where Lexy went to College at NAU.

Saw footage of the Grand Canyon just before the Superbowl kicked off, looked very impressive indeed!

I would say Grand Canyon in April, May, September or October. When kids are still in school. It will be warming up but not HOT. BTW I didn’t mean to stop you in Sedona, come all the way to Phoenix if you want, it’s nice then.
