Barb,
I think the Theraspheres or Sir Shere might be a way to go for those numerous liver tumors. I have many of them and a treatment that I had last June — though they were only able to get in half as many as they were hoping to because the fluids were backing up, had some great results in that now the liver tumors aren’t growing. I’ve been having chemo though, ever since for the other tumors.

January 18, 2008 at 2:08 pm #18714thecdrMemberThanks Michele, yes, I was on Lovanox, get this, while I was on my cruise! I had to have an ERCP for a blocked stent the day before we left! I still have some lumps in my stomach. what I had to do then was take vitamin K the night before the surgery, I would imagine the same would be true in this case, I’ll just have to wait and see I guess. Good luck with getting your OK!
January 18, 2008 at 4:45 am #18713micheleSpectatorcdr – my hubby went through chemoembollization ( 4X) taking Lovanox blood thinner shots, so you might ask to be put on this as easier to get on and off for procedures. You get used subcutaneous shots in stomach, like insulin. We are also waiting to get Ok for Folfox systemic -which is like yours + Leuvocorin. Hope it works for you too.
January 18, 2008 at 1:28 am #18712thecdrMemberSo, I met with the oncologist yesterday and next week I will be starting on a new chemo regime (new for me). We are changing to Oxaliplatin and Fluoruricil. I also meet with the radiologist next week to set up radiation tx for the tumors in my spine as that is where the most bone pain is coming from. I then met with the liver guy who didn’t have a lot to offer BUT then today I got a call from the interventional radiology team and they want to talk to me about theraspheres. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can be a candidate although with all the beams shooting through my body I may be lighting up the entire midwest! My biggest concern is that because I am on coumadin they may consider me to be too big a risk, but I am remaining hopeful. Keep your fingers crossed!
January 14, 2008 at 1:05 am #18711jeffgMemberBarb… Yes I surely do. 53 days and a wake up. About 7 weeks sounds better.
Bless ya!
Jeff G.January 14, 2008 at 12:24 am #18710thecdrMemberJeff, you must have read my mind! I know that radiation is often the only way to treat the pain of bone cancer, and when I had pursued theraspheres for my liver tumors the reason I couldn’t was because all lobes of my liver were filled with lots and lots of little tumors. Well, now I have more tumor but they are growing in size so I am hoping that they are big enough where radiation is an option. I realize that there are some bad side effects, but it’s not every day like the Tarceva. I can take feeling lousy if I know that I will also feel good some of the time.
I am intriqued about the taxotere. don’t you wish we could just throw water on these tumors and watch them melt?
what’s the countdown to hawaii?
January 13, 2008 at 7:39 pm #18709jeffgMemberBarb…Just a suggestion … ask why not a referral to radiologist oncologist. Although my radiation treatments were considered pallitive it stopped the pain and tumors from growing on my liver and S-1 area with on once a day for 15 days. Especially if your liver tumors are of low density it could possibally knock out that CC growth like mine. IMRT 3-D conformal I know to much radiation is not good for you, but that will be what I push for on two areas that I’m watching at the moment. If they say they don’t ever do radiation to the liver… well I did on approximately 1/2 of my one and only remaining lobe. In fact I’m hoping this taxotere is doing me good and not disturbing or reactivating my liver tumor. Stay strong and try using the unleashed power of your mind to shrink them tumors like the wicked Witch of the West.
God Bless,
JeffJanuary 13, 2008 at 5:36 pm #18708grafsjMemberBarb – God will continue to strengthen you through this. The Holy Spirit lives within you always.

January 11, 2008 at 4:39 pm #1026thecdrMemberso, just got copies of my CT scan that was done on Tuesday, not great news. I have 4 more BIG tumors in my liver, more lymph node involvement, and now it has spread to L3, S1 and to my right Ileum (hip). At least I know why my back has been hurting lately! I feel fine and when I talk to my oncologist on Monday we are going to have a Sunday come to Jesus meeting to talk about more aggressively fighting this sucker!
