Hi Tommy,
Welcome to the site. Sorry that you had to find us all and I;m sorry also to hear about your dad. But I’m glad that you have joined in here as you will get a load of support and help from all of us. I Can’t really add much to what the others have said to you but wanted to stop by and welcome you.
We can’t really say exactly what your dads experiences with Gem/Cis will be like as everyone is different. But we do have a great chemo board here with many posts from the members here and I know that you will find a ton of posts on Gem/Cis there as well.

I know that you will have loads of questions so please ask away and we will do what we can to help in answering them. And I hope that you keep coming back here. We know how you are feeling right now and we care.
My best wishes to you and your dad,
Gavin

September 28, 2011 at 1:18 pm #53241jathy1125SpectatorTommy-Welcome and sorry you had to find us. I am a CC survivor. I have been cancer free for 2 years. My CC was inoperable and my only hope was clinical trial involving chemo, radiation and a liver transplant. (You can read my story at thetelegraph.com under christmas miracle).
Please post more of your story. Lainy was right about second and third opinions. it is very important you have a doctor expierenced in treating CC, there are not whole lot out there because it is so rare. My doctor was Dr. William Chapman at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis MO. I am alive because of God, two strangers and Dr. William Chapman.
Lots of prayers-CathySeptember 28, 2011 at 5:32 am #53243marionsModeratorHi Tommy……I don’t have much to add to what Lainy already has conveyed to you, but I also wanted to welcome you to our site. Until others have a chance to respond to your question you might want to peruse previous postings by using the google function (top, right, simply enter: Gem/Cis.) Our Good News section helps keep up our spirits and soon we expect your name to pop up there also.
All my best wishes,
MarionSeptember 28, 2011 at 3:49 am #53242lainySpectatorDear Tommy welcome to our wonderful family where you will find the most courageous and caring people in the world. Sorry to hear about your Dad but it’s really impossile to say what you have to look forward to as each patient, no matter how many, seem to have their own experiences. You would probably do well to start educating yourself on CC as knowledge is powerful. The cocktail of GEM/CIS seems to be the popular choice around here. Where is your father being treated and please remember we are big proponents of 2nd and 3rd opinions. Know that we do not listen to statistics, we were not born with expiration dates and we try to be realistically optimistic. With that all said I have a feeling that the 16 Grandchildren are going to keep him on his toes and will be the best RX around. Please keep us posted as we do care.
September 28, 2011 at 3:29 am #5714tomandnancyMemberOur dad(Big Ed) as he’s known to loved ones was diagnosed earlier this week with bile duct cancer. It seems to have spread to his peritoneum and is considered inoperable. He is set to start chemo this Friday.(Gemcitabine and Cisplatin) Would love any feedback as what to expect. I know things don’t look good, but would still like to know what our father of four and grandfather to 16 is in store for. Thank you.
