Daisy….I have learned that abdominal radiation can cause pain, but I would want to know the field of radiation and whether the pain can be related to one specific organ or a nerve. All in all, a more detailed explanation will put your mind at rest. Patients are entitled to have their questions answered. Try to take notes of when the pain is most persistent, perhaps after a meal? The more you can describe to the physician the easier he/she can provide a detailed explanation.

Dear Daisy, when Teddy had radiation, the rad was on the front but he developed a rash on his back. No pain but he was extremely tired for about 2 weeks. We used to think, ah, its working!!!

    Hi Daisy,

Real sorry to hear about your mum and what she is going through right now with the treatments and the pain. The pain is definitely something that should be addressed and if your mum is having to use energy to fight the pain then that will just add to the fatigue that she is going through right now. The fatigue though with CC is very common and my dad went through that a lot, as have many and their loved ones here as well.

I don’t have anything specifically related to radiation pain but here are some links on cancer pain that I hope will be of use to you and your mum.

If I was you then I would go back to your mums doctor or onc and tell them that your mum is not coping well at all with the level of pain and see if they can change her meds or add to them. We also have a pain board here on the site so maybe you will find others experiences with pain in there.

My best to you and your mum,

    Gavin

My mom is having radiation to a couple of lymphnodes that lit up….she has undergone a resection and did chemotherapy twice! She has even had SBRT however now she is having 30 sessions of radiation on her nodes and she is in constant pain? Her fatigue is worse than ever?? She had a recent scan so he cancer hasn’t progressed as a matter of fact the radiation was a proactive measure because she was considered stable?

Is this type of pain and fatigue normal? Doctor seems to feel it’s par for the course….when compared to my friends who had radiation for breast cancer this seems much more difficult to endure??

Thank you in advance for your time:)
