Jtoro…The nausea may not be related to the chemotherapy treatments – you would want to call on Dr. Lenz and have him clarify this. He may want to step up the anti-nausea medication. Does he return phone calls or do you have to make an appointment to see him?
Remember though that with added medication you may also be sleepier. Either way, it can become a balancing act, but it can be done.
Hugs and love is heading your way,
MarionMarch 4, 2012 at 4:27 pm #58416jbc44MemberMy husband uses the patch. He started on the 25’s but is now using the 100’s. He changes it every 3rd day and it works wonders with the pain. He uses Zofran and Phenergan for the nausea which is really good. Good luck to you!
March 3, 2012 at 10:47 pm #58415pcl1029MemberHi,
Make ginger juice by chopping the ginger root into two teaspoonful of little pieces, then use a food processing squeezer ( a very common kitchen item ) and squeeze out the juice and try one teaspoonful 3 times daily for nausea. it works for controlling nausea pretty well. You can use the capsule too but the juice is much faster than the capsule. Pray to Him and I will do the same too.
God bless.March 3, 2012 at 8:05 pm #58414jtoroMemberThank you to all of you. I will start thr patch tonight. I do get many anti nausea medications with chemo, but this the worst I’ve been. I get decadron, kytril, aloxi, emmend, and Ativan. I also have others for the days after. This was my fourth cycle of the new chemo, 5fu/oxiliplatin. I had a scan on Tuesday and liver and lung rumors are stable. Slight growth in peritenium , and dr. Lenz feels this is causing the pain. My markers ans cea all look good. We will comNtine on with this chemo. A little better today, but still very nauseous. This is difficult as I’m continuing to drop weight and have to put some back on. Thank you for your support and prayers.

JtoroMarch 3, 2012 at 7:47 pm #58413lainySpectatorJtoro, after PCL posted it reminded me that Teddy had a Fenynal patch for a while and it was always put over ‘fatty’ parts like back upper shoulder. Also, for Teddy, the Morphine worked best, at least the breakthrough. Hoping that you get it all under control ASAP.
March 3, 2012 at 4:45 pm #58412pcl1029MemberHi, Jtoro,
I am sure you should take the patch, put it over on the upper arm and change it every 3days. Take the dilaudid as needed when you feel the pain is coming, not when you had the pain already. It takes about half hour to get the maximum relief of the pain. If you are not allergic to morphine ,you can ask for morphine SOLUTION by mouth for break thru pain . It is formulated as an oral solution so it will absorbed faster for faster relief of your pain. There is also sublingual Fentanyl firm you can put over the tongue too for the same purpose but is a lot stronger and I don’t think at this point you will need it.
For the nausea ,I am sure the doctor has given you something for that purpose,if you feel it is not enough, ask the doctor to switch to something stronger.
I will pray for you.
May the Love of our Lord,Jesus Christ, the Grace of God, and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you always.God bless.
March 3, 2012 at 2:11 pm #58411lainySpectatorHi, Jtoto. Pain and nausea not acceptable, no one has to live with that. Onc will send an RX for both. Not only is it uncomfortable it zaps the energy level as well.
Best of luck and I would get right on it!March 3, 2012 at 1:18 pm #58410mydadrocksSpectatorDad has been using it since he was diagnosed in november. it works beautifully for him, so much so that he’s not using anything else right now for pain. he is also on chemo.
don’t let yourself get into the pain cycle. pain is harder to manage when you let it go without treating it. let us know how you’re doing?
March 3, 2012 at 3:00 am #58409marionsModeratorJtoro…I look at it this way: The physician won’t prescribe unless the need for medication arises. I don’t see any reason as to why you should have to suffer with pain therefore, use it. Is your nausea diminishing as time goes on?
