    Hi Lisa,

Glad to hear that your pain is not being caused by blood clots. My mum had them in her lungs and as I am sure that you are aware of, they are something that needs to be dealt with immediately! So glad to hear that you do not have them!!

As to your pain issues right now, sorry to hear about them and like Lainy says, I don’t see why you should have to continue to deal with them for another few weeks. I sure hope that you can get some help for this and get to the bottom of what is causing this pain.

    Hugs,

    Gavin

Mmmm, Lisa, something doesn’t ring right here, like what is the big deal to do the lungs if that is what you request? Aso, there is no reason why you should continue with the pain from the port for another couple of weeks. Mmmmmmm, again!

I see the oncologist on October 5th for a scan of the abdomen and he will look at port pain then. He offered for me to come in sooner but now that I know it’s not a blood clot I will just wait till then. I asked for an abdomen and chest ct scan but they said only abdomen would be done at this time. I explained that I wanted the lungs looked at too but office said after he examines me he can always order another cat scan of the chest area. I would rather do it all at once…uuugghh

Glad to hear it isn’t something serious but it stinks that you are still in pain. Its been weeks of dealing with this pain. Could they replace the port?

    Marion,
Good thought, I will definitely ask next week. That would make sense since it hurts with movement.

Lisa…just thinking here. Your pain initially began after a nurse accessed your port; is it possible that she/he may have moved it enough to disturb the scar tissue?

I had an ultrasound today which showed no blood clot in or around the port. The test also showed that the port is in tack and no swelling or infection around it. This is such a relief but I still have a lot of pain so probably more testing next week to find out what is causing the pain.
THank you everyone for your responses.

Lisa…I have had a dual port for almost three years….I do feel that I get some swelling right after my port if flushed but it is never painful. Also, on a few of my CT scans they did note that there may be a thrombosis turns out there was no thrombosis but again I did not have any pain. The ultrasound should get to the bottom of your pain. Hoping you get some answers and they can relieve you of the pain. Hang in there sending prayers your way…..

    Lisa,
Sounds like the nurse did something wrong. Was it at the chemo clinic? Most of the nurses there were very good with the needle insertion, but there are few new nurses that aren’t so great. Emily is the best.
I hope they figure out what it is and fix it soon.

I’m glad you are having it checked out, Lisa. It just doesn’t seem right that it should hurt that long. I hope everything is ok and they can figure out what is causing your pain. Love you, my friend.

Five weeks ago when the nurse accessed my port I felt instant pain which I have never felt before. I called my doctors office a couple of weeks ago because the pain has continued. The doctor said they could have hit a muscle or nerve and to take Advil. The pain is still there and it does feel muscular in that it hurts when I stretch or reach, the pain goes out from the port to the left and right. I have an ultrasound tomorrow to rule out a blood clot. Has anyone else had port pain ? Mine was put in about two years ago.
    Thanks, Lisa
