Pamela…it happens frequently for platelets to drop. It is a common occurrence and generally rectifies itself within a week or two. Poor Lauren. I wish that she would not blame herself because; it is not something she could have caused. Some people have reported some success with eating high iron food such as iron fortified cereals, beans or legumes (especially kidney beans, pinto beans, and chick peas,) spinach and other dark green leafy vegetables, dried fruits, molasses and strawberries. But, generally things will resolve within a few days.
    Please, give her a hug.
    All my best wishes,
    Marion

    Hi everyone,

We drove all the way to Michigan on Sunday. (200 miles) Lauren had labs this morning. She then saw her oncologist. Her platelets were down to 76 so the doctor said no chemo today. So we had to come home. He wants her to have blood test on Friday near our home and if it is up she will have chemo on Monday. She feels great and the chemo is shrinking her tumors. She was so upset she couldn’t have it today. She feels like it is her fault or something she did. The doctor assured us it is from the chemo and has nothing to do with anything she did. I don’t know what in the world she would think she did to cause it anyway. She is a model patient. She eats well, rests a lot, and tries to stay happy and positive. She is in a clinical trial and gets three chemos so I am sure it is hard on her system. The doctor said he will reduce the strength of her dosages once her platelets go up. I just hope she will be able to continue because it was working. Does anybody have any advice on anything they did that seemed to help with platelets. The doc said there wasn’t anything she could. I still would like to hear your thoughts. Lainy- as you always say- One step forward, two steps back. Love you all,

    -Pam
