Scott……I must say, you managed to be the first reporting of a pic line heading to the brain. No wonder the surgeon was surprised. Anyway, glad it’s over and you are enjoying the long awaited pizza.

Oh, Scott, I am glad that is over for you! Say, is a potracath like a portapotty? Just had to ask. Take care now.

I am the proud owner of a new portacath. The plan was to put in the port and leave my PICC line in as well. The onc nurses could then access and flush my port to make sure everything is ok, and remove my picc if all is well.
I woke up in recovery with no picc line. I was excited, high fived the nurse, and asked her where the pizza is. The surgeon came in to check on my in my room, and said “something happened that I have never seen before”.
Apparently at some point with my picc, I overdid it and my picc shifted in the jugular vein. Instead of going to my heart, it was going towards my brain……
This is all fine and dandy, except my port had to be accessed and flushed right then. 2 hours after surgery. The nurse pretty much had tears in her eyes when she said “this is going to be very painful.” It definitely hurt, but wasn’t that bad.
I’m home in recover mode now….With my pizza.
