Port Placement on 11/5 and Chemo 11/14

So glad you made your choice. It was your decision and we know you made the right one for you. Sounds like you and my husband will be on opposite schedules. His 7th does is tomorrow. We always bring plenty to do. Tablet with several books on it. Snacks, water and juice along with headphones and some tunes. I also make sure that we have a “go-home bucket” just in case we have issues one the way home (it’s a 2-3 hour drive for us). I have a basin in case he get sick, a package of babywipes (to clean up if needed), a couple extra waters, a bottle of Ensure and any as needed meds (anti-nausea, pain meds, etc) so that the trip home is smoother. I also bring him an extra blanket and pillow for on the way home since he is almost always cold and tired.

I am so happy you decided on chemo. Lauren always made a big party out of it. She would bring a big bag that was on wheels full of stuff to do and little treats to eat. We always ate lunch together while she was getting chemo. She always wore a cute shirt and had all her makeup on and big earrings in. She was so funny. Everyone always commented on how great she looked and that she didn’t look like a cancer patient. Even though she was getting chemo, I cherish the special times we spent together. I hope things go well for you. Take care.

I was extremely anxious before my first chemo. I didn’t have a port placed (at the recommendation of my oncologist) so it was 30 minutes finding a vein. You are so ahead of the game. Having a port makes it so much easier and faster. I ended up having a port placed after my 3rd round of chemo. It was such a blessing.
My recommendation would be to bring a bottle of water, a good book, and a good friend if you can. Makes time go by faster. i also watched a lot of cable TV.

Dear Lady Linden, I am thrilled to hear you took a roller coaster ride and it was the fun kind not our roller coaster! You are doing beautifully. So many things are not as bad as we imagine they are going to be. Keep up the good work and I will be thinking of you on your on NOV 14th day! Much good luck.
Good to hear and good luck on your journey. I completely understand being scared to start chemo especially how its going to effect you if you have been feeling great. I have never been sick since being diagnosed this year (but have had this since 2010) and the only symptom I had was some abdominal pain. I was very anxious about how chemo was going to effect my body. Again, everyone reacts different…but I have tolerated it well with few symptoms. I experience mostly fatigue but nothing too bad that really impacts my daily life. I feel very fortunate that I am tolerating it well and I hope the same for you.

MarionHi, I’m a 62 year old diagnosed in late May, 2013 with cholangiocarcinoma, Stage IV, inoperable, metastisis to lymph nodes, 7cm tumor, 4th ERCP stent placement, last one on 10/16, went from plastic to metal.
After about six months of postponing port placement and chemo of Cis/Gem, I sought the advice of the members on this site and had a port placed on 11/5. Chemo to start 11/14/13. I was afraid to chemo because I’m feeling fine, but I know it’s just a matter of time before I go downhill.
Since installation of the metal stent on 10/16, the pressure in my abdomen is no longer there. In October I went to an amusement park and rode the roller coaster, I’ve been dancing twice, went to a great Halloween party. If I did not have the opinions of two doctors and didn’t have the stents, I would think they made a diagnostic mistake!!! Besides fatigue I feel quite good.
I am anxious to see how the chemo affects my body. November 14th is C-Day. I’ll update so that new members can get some feedback. Knowledge is Power.
