    Hi willow,

I’m sorry to read this and am keeping everything crossed that your sisters doctor has a plan of attack for her.

Unfortunately, I have heard of this before, but not on this site or connected to CC. I think we were told of that risk and that there seems to be more of a risk of it with needle biopsies than other types. At the time, I wasn’t really absorbing most of what we were told as there was way too much going on. However at that point we would have done or gone along with whatever it took to find out what was going on and what we could do about, so I guess we have to weigh the risks with the expected results. I do think the newer method that was mentioned does help to minimize the risk of seeding. Hoping they can do something and that things will start looking up for her.

    Love & Hugs,
    Darla

Her DR said its rare but not unheard of. No talk of removal yet.

Dear Willow, And I am shocked as well. In my 8 years on this Board never ever heard of this. I am wondering if our Medical Board has eve heard of this.
It is good that you are going with her for this next treatment and I am hoping as well the lump can just be removed. Dang! This CC seems to always have some new surprise. Wishing her the very best in all ways.

Willow….I am shocked to hear that this cancer can seed under the skin during biopsy. With the 80 thousand (or so) entries on this site, this is the first report of such an occurrence. So glad that you are able to accompany her to treatment tomorrow and all my fingers are crossed for a positive CT result and that the lump can be removed.
    Hugs,
    Marion

Well, my sister got the terrible news that the lesion on her upper right abdomen is a CC met (per the biopsy results). It is not flat after all, but is a lump under skin where entry for biopsies were 1.5 years ago. Why does it seem like she has to have this rare occurrence of needle tract seeding with the rare ICC? I’m so sad and worried about her and yet don’t want to show it. We are discouraged. we go to chemo tomorrow and it’s the first time I can go with her for this. A CT is sched for next Monday to see if current chemo is working.

Willow I am far from in your sister’s boat but from the Remicade I am on I have tiny bumps that itch all over the top of my head. I made a list of all my side effects, usually about 12 every day and gave it to the Nurse administering the Remicade. He told me what was an allergic reaction and what was a side effect. My bumps are an allergic reaction. It felt better somehow just to know what was what. If it gets real bad I take a Benedryl (allergic reaction only). As far as I am concerned there is NO reason for anyone to suffer for anything today.

    Hi,

I guess we have to wait for the biopsy result to know the truth; but since it is a “flat” area and not lumpy as your described ,I would be doubtful that it is CCA related. As always, I can be wrong too. Neupogen administration can cause pain too esp. bone pain.
If I have pain or fever, I will take ibuprofen with food(ie:Advil 400mg), for me it is more effective than Tylenol .

    God bless.

The new chemo was making some kind of acne or rash on her scalp. Her hair is in the process of coming out and the onc said that the Taxol affecting hair follicules can do that. So, this is why she was referred to a dermatologist. While there, my sister asked the dermatologist to look at a red, unbroken and non-symptomatic flat area of skin on her right upper abdomen about size of a dime which is at the insertion site for two biopsies done about 17 months ago (Aug ’12). The dermatologist was more concerned about this than the scalp rash so she took a biopsy of it. Waiting for results and to get stiches out.
Meanwhile the derm dr RX a special shampoo for the scalp and my sister is trying to adjust to losing lots more hair daily. She is not ready to shave it all off. She has two beautiful new wigs which she’s starting to wear in public and some stylish knit hats. Still, its hard for her to feel strong emotionally with outwardly visible signs of this disease including the skin lesion, scalp rash and hair loss.
I am getting more scared about the slow progression and unknowns of her CC. Hard to know if this taxol is going to help because it hits her blood counts hard so often doses are reduced or infusion is delayed a week altogether. Her fatigue is increasing (mainly Chemo related I assume) and she seems to be in pain now though she doesn’t take much at all for that outside of occasional Tylenol. (She is trying to go easy on liver by not taking lots of Tylenol). I’m thinking maybe she should have an RX pain med be on hand just in case. Talked to her about value of staying out of pain vs risk of taking more meds. I love her so much and her son needs his Mom to raise and love him! Hoping all this is simply side effects from chemo (and Nupogen shots) and not disease progression.

Willow….we know that prior biopsies can exclude patients from liver transplantations. We also know that internal cancer can cause acanthosis (skin spots) – reason for this occurrence is unknown. It is this what has been remarked on?

    Hi,
I never read an article that CC can be seeded in the skin but it doesn’t mean it cannot happen.
I presume the outer cannula where it touches the biopsy tumor area, when it withdraws back to the top, it, in theory, the outside of the cannula can also carry tumor cells along the track. But most of the time, the chance of seeding that I read is much less than 10%( ie: around <2%).
May I ask why the suspicion like this arise to your sister?

    God bless.

Willow, gee, this would be a first for me. I have never heard of this before. Please let us know what you find out, I guess anything is possible it just sounds so strange. What are you seeing that makes you think that? When are you supposed to find out the results? Hang in there, girl.
