Hi Kate, so good to see you ‘pop’ in on us! Doubly glad to hear how well your Dad is doing. Good, good news! Wishing you all the best and continued success!
September 20, 2011 at 7:07 pm #52967katjaMemberHi Desmet,
We are in the UK – Yorkshire. My dad is Malc2073 and he had whipples in Jan 2010 as well! I hope you are doing as well as he is – clear scan in August and now on 6 week tour of Europe in his new car – having lots of ‘little did I think’ moments along the way.My dad was part of the Bilcap trial – we’d be interested to hear if you were offered/took part in it.
Very best wishes to you and welcome aboard!
KateSeptember 20, 2011 at 6:59 am #52966marionsModeratorHello desmet…..a warm welcome from me to you. In addition to the comments made already I would like to mention the AMMF founded by Helen, in the UK. http://www.ammf.org.uk/
We are thrilled to have you.
All my best wishes,
MarionSeptember 20, 2011 at 6:53 am #52965marionsModeratorHa,ha….Lainy, you are so right. I have a special place in my heart for Teddy and for YOU.
September 20, 2011 at 1:22 am #52964lainySpectatorI live in Sun Lakes (active adult community) about 5 minutes South of Chandler! I have a fabulous daughter in Gilbert about 20 minutes from me. Surprise is about an hour the other side of Phoenix. I have been here 16 years now and just LOVE it. I am originally from Kansas City, Mo. and moved to Milwaukee, WI when I married brand X. I was married about 23 years and literally ran away from years of mental stuff and 8 years after that met my love of my life Teddy. What can I say about Teddy. Our Marion will tell you they fell for each other! He was a Man’s man and a Woman’s Gentleman. I also say, “for a short man, he stood very tall”. I hope you come this way again!
September 20, 2011 at 12:36 am #52963mustangmortSpectatorLainy, I used to go down 2 or 3 times per year. My mom lived there and my daughter was in Mesa. Mom died in February and daughter moved up here with us for childbirth. Do still have a brother in Surprize and a son-in-law going to school in nursing at ASU. Was born and raised in SW New Mexico. Next time down I’ll tell my wife we have to visit someone with Sicilian connections.

September 19, 2011 at 7:57 pm #52960mustangmortSpectatorWelcome Desmet. I have always wanted to visit the UK. Does that count? I count myself lucky to make it as far as Phoenix (700 miles). The people on this forum are a tremendous help and a blessing. Keep us informed how you are doing.

September 19, 2011 at 7:46 pm #52959gavinModeratorHi Desmet,
Welcome to the site. Sorry that you had to find us all but I am glad that you have joined us all as you have come to the right place for support and help, and you will get a ton of both of these from all of us. As Percy and Lainy have said to you, I am in the UK, in Dundee in Scotland. My dad was diagnosed and treated here in Dundee at Ninewells hospital where he had PDT. Where abouts in the UK are you and where did you have your whipples?
As Lainy said to you as well, we do have quite a few members here in the UK and I know that some of them will be along shortly as well to welcome you here as well. That is great to hear that you were able to have the whipples and it would help other UK members as well if you could let us know where this was done and who did it.
How are you feeling right now and did your docs want to do any further treatment for you? Percy mentioned the BILCAP trial involving Capcetabine and surgery vs surgery alone for CC. Did your doctors mention this to you? Here is a link to the trial that may be of interest to you –
We are glad that you have joined us all and you are most welcome here. Post away as much as you want and if you have any questions then please just ask and we will do what we can to help in answering them. And please keep us updated on how you are doing.
My best wishes to you,
Gavin
September 19, 2011 at 3:55 pm #52958lainySpectatorHello and welcome to our wonderful family where you will find the most courageous and caring people in the world. Congratulations on already being a CC survivor. My husband had a Whipple in 2005. What is the ONC doing for post care?
We have quite a few members in the UK. Andie, Lalupes, Helen, (I know there are more and I am sure they will join in) and then our Gavin who is in Dundee.
Wishing you the best and please keep us posted.September 19, 2011 at 3:25 pm #52957pcl1029MemberHi,
welcome to this web site, I know Gavin from UK will join in soon.
I am a patient from the States and I have a question for you if you don’t mind.
Have you join the BILCAP-a randomized trial in UK for capecitabine for resected patient like you.? If you are in this trial, please tell me how you are doing and for how long. If you never heard of this trial and want to know more, please go to this site and search under the chemotherapy forum for more information.I believe this is the only way to get more treatment (if you were chosen) after resection for patients in UK.
God bless.September 19, 2011 at 3:06 pm #5665desmet34SpectatorHi,
Im new to this site and just wondered if there are any folk from the UK on here? I had whipple surgery in January 2010 for a tumour in my bile duct and a pre cancerous polyp on my duodenum. These sites are fantastic for advice and reassurance . thanks for having me -
