My father has had a long history of taking prednisone due to asthma beginning very early in his life. He is 90 and has CC. During the early years, when prednisone was first used as a miracle drug he was on a constant dosage. He has asthma flares that result in taking prednisone at least 1 – 2 times each year. Sometimes he is on it for a month or two. It certainly makes me wonder if there is a link.

All – John was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at age 16. He was never given prednisone, but took some pretty heavy doses of other meds. I often wondered if it was the ulcerative colitis that caused the problem or the medications he took. He was absolutely without symptoms once on medication……

Just a thought. I also wonder if the fact that people travel all over the world more often and easily than years ago, if the incidence of picking up the parasite in countries where it is more prevelant is why we are seeing these increases in other countries.

I have not heard anything relating to prednisone, and I also had the same type of reaction years ago and had a long regime of treatment and immune system issues. However, I do not have CC . It was my husband, who passed from CC. Yes, it all does make you wonder, does it?

Cheryl…… There is a higher incidence of PSC leading to CC, and colitis leading to PSC and then CC, but I have not read anything re: CC being an auto-immune disease. I have been told that there is a possibility of the constant irritation caused by either, PSC or colitis “possibly” causing this disease. But, I don

I was just wondering if anyone is aware of any studies or links to Prednisone usage and C.C. In my research as to “risks”for CC, I have noticed increased incidence in patients with history of ulcerative colitis and cholangitis. Generally, most studies seem to say that researchers feel that CC may be auto-immune related if there is no other related history. I know that patients with ulcerative colitis and cholangitis are often given Prednisone for flare-ups. Although he has no previous history, Herb was on fairly long term Prednisone for an anaphylactic reaction to wasps (which did play havoc with his immune system for a couple of years), it just sets you to wondering!
    Thanks Cheryl
