Tnx for the post on proton therapy. I just finished a 5 day course of treatment and am hoping the results are positive. My CC was both outside of and within, with 2 affected lymph nodes but not metastasized. Still have to get the 1 month after CT scan so don’t know the results. For 4 mos I have been wearing 2 drainage tubes and bags. Ughhh. The proton doc at Loma Linda University on So. Cal. Said the lymph nodes and the tumor are gone. But I wonder since I am still wearing the drainage bags. Will know more tomorrow when I see the Onc. I am a mess just because. There is so much I don’t know yet. Hope to get lots of answers tomorrow.

Would like to know if anyone else has been treated for CC with proton therapy.

    Tnx

Thanks for that Marion, yes it can be very slow some times, grrrr! Think the same is happening here in the UK in that it will only be available in a few locations throughout the country.

Science moves slowly, Gavin, Proton Beam Therapy is still under investigation and “very” costly. It is cost prohibitive for most medical institutions and for that reason is offered in a select few cancer institutions only. I first heard of proton beam at a conference 10 years ago where this type of radiation treatment that uses protons rather than x-rays to treat cancer was mentioned.

Thanks for that Marion. We are way behind the rest of the world when it comes to treatment like these. I know that the NHS are funding this a bit more now but the child in question in the above link had to take their child to The Czech republic to get the treatment done there. They did that against the docs orders and it seems to have been the right choice for them.

Proton Beam Therapy is under investigation for CCA as well. See below link:

    https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00976898
I assume for data to be released real soon and perhaps find out more at our upcoming Annual Conference.

Not sure why the below study has been terminated, but will try to find out:
    https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00426829

This study investigates Stereotactic radiation therapy (either photon or proton)

Not CC related but this piece is all over the UK media today and this link gives some info on PBT.

Not sure if this treatment is used for CC
