October 22, 2014 at 2:42 am #85158marionsModeratorLorna….where is your oncologist? With Sloan Kettering?
October 21, 2014 at 10:56 pm #85157lornadooneSpectatorThe ct scan was not scheduled until 3 months after chemo started which will be early january. We decided to pay for an ultra sound on our own. The onc was not aware that we did the ultra sound until after the fact. The onc said he has only has 3 treatments and that is way too early to see any results. He wants us to stay the course and do a scan in january after 1st cycle is complete. We are so confused. It’s is like choosing door one or two and if you choose wrong it is your life.
Thank you so much for your responses. I truly value all of your opinions and knowledge.October 21, 2014 at 9:19 pm #85156marionsModeratorLorna…….hmmmm, not sure I like the explanation if indeed the tumor burden has increased as mentioned. Take a look:

Doing the same technology (CT scan) using different machines may give you different answers. Using a whole different technology (ultrasound instead of CT) makes me wonder if the results are directly comparable.

The doctor said it is just too early. 3 treatments is not enough. And sometimes they can enlarge before they shrink. Dont know what to believe.October 21, 2014 at 3:40 pm #85153marionsModeratorLorna…….from my perspective and if the physician does not have a plausible answer to your question, I would question the continuous use of Folfox.
So sorry, Lorna and Matt, but there are other treatments available. Also, had molecular/genetic testing been done?

MarionOctober 21, 2014 at 3:19 pm #85152lornadooneSpectatorThanks Crissie. I guess we were just so anxious to see if the tumors shrank and it was a blow to get the results. We will keep the faith and continue to fight on.
Love and prayers!October 21, 2014 at 3:13 pm #85151lornadooneSpectatorHi Marion,
The tumors were 3.7cm and 1.3cm in September. After only 3 rounds of Folfox we decided to do an Ultra sound. I know the ultra sound is not as accurate as a CT scan but we were anxoius to see results. Sadly, the results were not good. Tumors grew to 7cm and 3cm. I know we have many treatments to go but shouldnt we have seen shrinkage even after 3 treatments?
Scared out of our minds.
Lorna & MattOctober 21, 2014 at 2:46 pm #85150crissieSpectatorI think that is too early to see any effect. My dad had his first CT scan after treatment at 3 months. His ended up shrinking but he never had an ultrasound done.

Lorna & MattOctober 21, 2014 at 1:25 am #85148marionsModeratorLorna….not sure what you mean by swelling? Has CT shown increase in tumor size?
October 20, 2014 at 8:34 pm #10666lornadooneSpectatorHas anyone heard of tumor swelling before shrinking while on chemo??
