No. The Hospice files are bogus at best! The button was pushed into the skin with a needle. However, the Nurse injected the Ativan in to the button. I agree with you that the buttons were simply to facilitate the giving of the medications…. little as they were given. But thank you so much and yes I hope others will chime in here.

My dad’s was connected to an IV. I wouldn’t think medication could be dispensed through a button on the skin unless it had a needle on the other side that was inserted in the skin. I’m thinking like a diabetic pump? Otherwise I would think it was a patch that dispensed medication like fentenyl (sp). I hope someone is able to enlighten us on this. Is this information about Teddy’s buttons written in a report somewhere?

Pam, that sounds like the stupidness at the Hospice Teddy was at. Was Dad’s button connected to an IV or machine? Teddy’s button was not connected to anything. That’s why I don’t think it had Morphine in it.

Lainy, I have not heard of it on the thigh but the night my dad had his surgery he came back to the room with a morphine button he was suppose to press when he needed it. He could not even find his nose. I basically got into trouble by the nurse for pressing it for him when he was moaning out in pain. She said I could have given him medication when he really didn’t need it and it was his job to give it to himself. I was completely baffled.

Ok, OK, so I don’t know it all. A question has come up about Teddy’s last day in Hospice. The nurse put a button on each thigh. Through the left button she administered some Ativan and through the right one some Morphine. My daughter seems to think that this button for the Morphine contained Morphine for us to dispense by pushing it. I have never heard of such a thing nor did I dispense any Morp. Futhermore a patient who is dying could never reach and dispense the Morph this way. So, has anyone ever heard of a button that dispenses the Meds. The buttons are stuck on the leg. I remember her saying that this way she would not have to keep sticking Teddy. Thanks.
