DarlaOh, you are another “lurker” who has joined in. So glad that you did. How is your Mom doing? Is the infection close to cleared up?
She, like so many others it seems, was diagonsed at Stage IV. It was found in the liver and there are some spots in the lungs. She is not a candidate for surgery. I am hoping that she responds to the chemo because I want to keep her around for a very long time. Thanks for the response everyone. Before signing up I had been lurking and reading others experiences.

Here is a really good link to a site that I use often at the hospital. The information is accurate and it’s very user friendly for non medical people. (Although after dealing with this monster of a disease, we should ALL have a medical degree!)

I also want to welcome you. I too can relate to the birthday thing as my husbands first symptoms appeared right around his 62nd birthday. His liver enzymes were good in June and his symptoms started the beginning of July, so even though as Jamie said, anything normal is good, it does seem to vary with everyone.
I will be thinking postive thoughts and keeping you all in my prayers. Hoping for the best for your Mom.

Welcome to our group. I think you will find a wonderful group of people here that offer support and information for you. I can relate to the “birthday gift”. I was actually at the Dr on my 51st birthday and found out I was very sick. They knew fairly soon it was cancer but took weeks to figure out what kind. I’ll pray that next year you have a really big celebration for her 70th!
As for the liver enzymes I can only share my experience. Mine were 5X normal when I was diagnosed and came down little by little, were normal before I had resection and then went up right after surgery. Came back down again and have been normal since. Had clear scans up until last week and now it has returned but liver enzymes are still normal. So as Marion said I think it varies but I always think anything normal is something positive. JamieMy Mom was diagnosed with this disease at the end of April, just a few days after her 69th birthday. What a birthday gift. She spent about 3 weeks in the hospital. She had fluid buildup in the lungs after she had her 2nd ERCP. They thought this was a gallstone/gallbladder problem at first. The first ERCP was to remove a stone or so they thought. The bile duct was so tight that they couldn’t use their equipment. They had to send her to another hospital where they had better equipment. There, they were able to insert a stent. She is back in the hospital with cellulitis/blood infection which is going away. Today her doctor said that her liver enzymes were normal. My question would be are normal liver enzymes a good sign? I realize that normal is a good thing but am I getting my hopes up with this one result?
