Hi (again) Diego….as mentioned, Gem/Cis is the standard of care for this disease (in most instance) patients must have failed this regimen prior to enrolling in a clinical trial.
However; please take a look at our clinical trials section and particularly on those that have been highlighted with a “sticky.”
Additionally, has a biopsy confirmed the cancer? If so, then tissue should be available for molecular testing.
Hugs,
MarionJuly 24, 2015 at 9:23 pm #89052gavinModeratorHi Diego and Carmen,
Welcome to the site. So sorry that you had to find us all here and I am sorry as well to hear what you both are going through right now. Although I am glad that you have joined in with us now as you have come to the best place for support and help and will get loads of each from everyone. If we can help we will.
Thanks as well for sharing everything with us and I know how frightening all of this is to you. I know that it can be hard not to sometimes but please try to not think of the worst outcomes to all of this. You are both not alone in this now, we are here for you and we care.
The more that you learn about all of this the better you will be when it comes to helping Carmen with everything to do with treatments etc. Knowledge is most definitely power when it comes to everything to do with CC. Please keep on coming back here and keep us updated on everything.
My best to you and Carmen,
Gavin
July 24, 2015 at 12:59 am #89051lainySpectatorDiego, Gem/Cis is usually the first line of treatment. You are at a good hospital and I Pray and hope this chemo cocktail helps. When I hear of anyone say, under 50 it always blows me away and one has to wonder HOW???? When my husband had CC it was 10 years ago and I can honestly say things have improved as far as treatment. I know that others will be coming along to welcome you and you are now part of our remarkable family.
July 24, 2015 at 12:30 am #890506gonzalez6SpectatorCarmen is 43 and OC said stage 4…and to treat with chemo and Cisplatin. It is metastatic , gone to her liver, lymph nodes and one between rib cage and right lung.
We are being treated at UCSD Cancer Center
July 24, 2015 at 12:10 am #89049lainySpectatorDear Diego and Carmen, welcome to the best place to be for CC support although I am truly sorry you had to find us.
Did the ONC tell you what stage Carmen is at and what here his suggestions for treatment. We have had many members in the same situation and at Stage IV and with Chemo they were able to bring the tumor down and have a successful surgery.
We do not listen to statistics as everyone is different and reacts different to treatments.
What is Carmen’s age and where is she being treated. Please know that knowledge is extremely important in treating CC and the best way to attack it. The other important thing is to try real hard to have a positive attitude and a sense of humor does not hurt a thing. I understand that right now you have been hit in the gut with a baseball bat but I promise you that once treatment begins the fright will turn to fight.
We are also big believers in 2nd and 3rd opinions as different eyes see different things.
Below is a site that may be of value to you and please do keep us informed of Carmen’s progress.

July 23, 2015 at 11:26 pm #115306gonzalez6SpectatorHi this is Diego and Carmen,
My wife Carmen was recently diagnosed and it all started with us thinking her gallbladder was the issue. We have been very overwhelmed with support here and prayers.
My wife process has moved so fast that within 1 1/2 months after all the CT scans, MRI, PET scans and blood work we started Chemotherapy 3 days ago. All i can think about is that they tell us there is no cure yet… I’m freaked out to be without my wife and my 4 children also understand that this may take her if we don’t get control of it soon.Anyone else have this type and if so what options do we have more of, I hear a good study trial in Maryland.
Thank you,
Diego and Carmen Gonzalez
