Kris,
Just wanted to let you know we are thinking of you and are hoping for continued improvement. It’s been a tough road.

April 13, 2014 at 1:25 am #81040kvollandSpectatorWooHoo! Lisa so glad that you are almost done….and on the same day too. It’s been a long haul for you.
They talked about holding Friday’s dose and making it up next week. Were worried that he had too much radiation in one day with the x-ray and the CT scan….I asked if it really mattered and they said no and let us do it. No interferon though so that helped some.He had three bouts of the sepsis last summer and it was horrible. Nice thing is he usually perks up with antibiotics.
April 13, 2014 at 1:03 am #81039lisasSpectatorAh, Kris, so sorry. He is having a rough time. I went through that in February and I was septic, with a super low BP too, so I know how miserable it is.
I’m glad you are almost done. Me too. I finished my chemo yesterday and finish my radiation (making up 2 days I missed) on Tuesday, just in time to celebrate our anniversary.
April 13, 2014 at 12:56 am #81038kvollandSpectatorWell, we are almost done but I think if we weren’t so close, Mark would cry Uncle on it! We spent Friday morning in the ER. Woke up to 101.7 temp that would not respond to Tylenol so instead of infusion center for fluids, we were in the ER to rule on infection. Ugh! They initially thought he was septic…temp up, pulse up, BP down low (83/46). His white blood cells were only 2.7 on Wednesday so they were worried. After two liters of fluid, CT scan, blood work and x-ray, they found nothing but a possible sinus infection. Back on antibiotics then home after radiation treatment. He was upset because the chemo was going in the port so they had to start lines and do peripheral blood draws. Not fun. Two more radiation doses next week then off chemo on Wednesday and he is done.
This has been a definite rough go. I think if his first 6 months of chemo (Gemox) had been like this I bet he would have said no to this round of it. But we are almost done.KrisV
April 3, 2014 at 3:02 am #81037marionsModeratorKris…..seems that everything is falling in place for the wedding. Mark should be in good shape and both of you deserve this welcome break from it all. Have fun, Kris.
Hugs,
MarionApril 3, 2014 at 2:14 am #81036lainySpectatorKris, everything sounds like it is all moving in an upward motion and I like that! Congratulations on the wedding and I know you 2 will have an awesome day.
April 3, 2014 at 1:56 am #81035darlaSpectatorGlad to hear Mark is feeling much better. You two relax and enjoy the wedding. Fingers crossed that all goes well in the next two weeks, too.
Love & Hugs,
DarlaApril 3, 2014 at 1:35 am #81034kvollandSpectatorWell the week is up and we saw the ONC today and they restarted both the radiation and the chemo although the 5FU is at 75% of original dose. Also restarted the Interferon today.
Labs were pretty good although platelets were only up to 100 and I was hoping that they were up over 150 but close enough.
Mark says he’s feeling much better. Bloody noses have mostly stopped and his mouth has mostly healed. He’s eating better and even gained a couple pounds so he’s back over 200#.Now for fingers crossed that we can make it two more weeks then we are done. Wedding is Saturday so he should be feeling alright for that.

March 27, 2014 at 3:33 am #81033mcwgoatSpectatorHi Kris,
Sorry work is making this more difficult for you. Not something you need right now – or at all!
Also sorry Mark is having so much trouble with his mouth but hopefully his mouth will heal quickly and he can get back on his chemo and radiation. I think it’s good to give him a break before it gets so bad he doesn’t eat or drink anything. You don’t need him losing weight now.
Best of luck to both of you. I hope work can find it somewhere in their hearts to be more understanding, and compassionate, for what you are going through.
Stay strong as you always do.
Peace, Love & Hugs,
MaryMarch 27, 2014 at 2:28 am #81032darlaSpectatorHi Kris,
I’ll go with the positive first. Glad Mark is feeling better. As for the rest, hopefully it will all sort itself out. Good job installing the dishwasher. It’s amazing the things we can accomplish when we have to. Take care. I hope everything works out for you with your job.

DarlaMarch 27, 2014 at 1:07 am #81031kvollandSpectatorTalked to the Onc today and because his mouth is so sore and tore up they are going to stop it all for a week – radiation and chemo. It’s kind of sad because it just means we are going to have to go a week longer but maybe his mouth will heal. Doc said that the feet we would just live with but when the mouth gets that bad they stop so he will be able to eat and drink. Kind of a relief.
The only bummer is trying to figure out how to deal with my work – they have stopped being nice recently and I am frustrated with all of it. I have finally used up all my FMLA and not eligible for anything else. I could go back to work for a few days but they don’t want me to since I am off…..it’s all so complicated. As if I need one more thing to worry about.
But on a positive note, he is feeling better.

March 26, 2014 at 3:07 am #81030kvollandSpectatorThanks everyone. He is starting to get a little feisty now although he did allow me to drop him off at the doors to the treatment center today. Then I got him in a wheelchair and wheeled him around and he didn’t complain.
Tomorrow is the telling day. IF his platelets are good (they were creeping pretty low last week) then we have to decide if he wants to restart it or not. The choices are to stop completely, stop for a week or start at a reduced dose. I almost home his platelets are too low so it doesn’t matter. They will continue to do radiation no matter what.I did manage to be my dishwasher installed all by myself today. I was rather proud of myself for that.

March 26, 2014 at 12:28 am #81029pfox2100MemberHi Kris. It sounds like Mark was suffering a little and hit a bump on the road. Sorry that you both have to deal with this. Though I did just read too that he is of the 5fu and sounds like he is already feeling better! Many hugs and blessings to you guys for a continued well recovery. I think of y’all often
PorterMarch 25, 2014 at 11:55 pm #81028RandiSpectatorGlad to hear that Mark is happy and comfortable. Time for a rest for sure.
Take care,
-Randi-March 25, 2014 at 1:21 am #81027darlaSpectatorKris,
This sounds like a good plan. Give Mark a break and then go on from there. Glad that for today Mark is happy and feeling better. Hope this continues.
Love & Hugs,
