Julie….I too want to chime in and lend you support. Good news is that you are nearing the finish line. Hang in there, a tidal wave of good wishes are heading your way.

This is definitely not a too delicate to discuss subject so please, no apologies are ever needed so you and everyone go ahead and discuss as much as you want to. Can’t share any personal experiences here as my dad never did chemo but please know that I am thinking of you and hoping that the side effects pass very very soon for you! And of course, you know that I’m keeping my fingers crossed too that it all works for you.
Hope today is a much better day for you!
Hugs,
Gavin

No advice or words of wisdom here, but just want you to know that I do sympathize with what you are going through and am thinking of you. Hope things improve some soon. You are strong and yes, you will get through this. One day at a time.
Love & Hugs,
DarlaJuly 28, 2014 at 3:07 pm #83887iowagirlMemberEveryone….thank you…it was good to wake up to support this morning when I logged in a few minutes ago. I woke up feeling fine, took a Lorazepam just in case, got in the shower and 5 minutes later was dry heaving for what seemed like 10 minutes, but I”m sure it was just half that time.
My onc gives me Emend in the IVs on the chemo day one when I get the Cisplastin and Gemzar together, She also gives me a steroid as well. This is just hitting me nastier right now,.
It didn’t dawn on me that maybe the next chemo with Cisplatin/Gemzar might have less side effects. How wonderful that would be. However, since round three started, each round has had nausea a little longer and a little harder. That seems to be “my” pattern.
Kris….I will get some GasX today to see if that will help. I”m willing to try just about anything to be able to get through the last infusions and be able to say I did it.
I still feel pretty queasy right now…..it comes and goes……even after dry heaving….which isn’t how it usually goes. I don’t dare take the 2nd Lorazepam as I need to drive today to two appointments….sigh…unless I can sweet talk my hubby into driving me to them.
July 28, 2014 at 12:04 pm #83886lulu07SpectatorIowa girl….I have been on both cistplatin and oxaliplatin….has your oncologist ever recommended Emend for nausea? My second round of oxaliplatin I did have some side effects red rash itching skin so they switched me to cistplatin…also I receive my chemo slower than usual…I have no idea if that works but I have never had nausea from either of the platins and I only receive the platins alone not along with any other chemo agents. Hope you can get this nausea out of the way sending best wishes.
NancyJuly 28, 2014 at 6:30 am #83885kris00jSpectatorI never had cisplatin so I can’t specifically say, but I did have oxaliplatin. And I had nausea after the third round. And, yes, often I had to RUN to the bathroom! The dry heaves were worse for me,so I stopped the anti nausea drugs and just let it roll. After an hour I was fine.
Normally, unfortunately, once you’ve had the side effect you don’t lose it. Hopefully it doesn’t get worse.
Keep on keepin on! You WILL get thru this! Cheering for you! Praying, too.July 28, 2014 at 3:14 am #83884kvollandSpectatorYou go girl, you can do it. I know you can. Just remember that each round is a little different and while this on might be a little rougher, the next one might be even easier. I know Mark felt that way about it.
Something I just thought of too about the dry heaves…..have you tried something like GasX…. which is simethicone. A lot of time dry heaves can be caused by excessive air in the stomach and this might help break it up some. Worth a try if you haven’t tried it yet. Glad it doesn’t bother you too much though.Hang in there. You are always in my thoughts.

July 28, 2014 at 2:25 am #10373iowagirlMemberThe day one Cisplatin/Gemcitibine I received last Wednesday for round 5 of my 4-6 rounds has hit much harder, though I hesitate to say it is intolerable, as that would as of yet, be probably an overstatement of facts.
I understand that each person going through this chemo, it is different, but I now “get it” when my local oncologist mentioned (strongly) that I had gotten through 4 cycles and I could stop if I wanted to do so.
I am still mainly dealing with dry heaves…but they are morning, mid day, mid evening and bedtime. Note..this is not vomiting anything…just dry heaves….which strangely enough, don’t seem to bother me that much….just get it over and then I feel better again. Well, until just a bit ago…..when things were a bit more than just dry heaves….but barely.
Earlier this afternoon, I thought I was doing well and went to a store while my husband picked up some new shoes. Suddenly diarrhea hit….and I quickly made it out of the store to the restrooms (fortunately two doors down). Sorry for anyone who thinks this is too delicate to discuss, but it is reality. Now, the big question is whether the diarrhea was a consequence of apple juice I drank last night…..OR….chemo side effects. So far, nothing else has happened, so I”m “hoping it was just the apple juice and a reaction from not having had that kind of thing for quite a long time.
In any case, the dry heaves and queasiness have definitely increased a lot over round 4. I”m headed for the Lorazepam medicine bottle shortly to take one of those life savers before bed.
I WILL get past this….right?!!!!! I WILL!!!!! I know I can do more….and maybe I don’t want to know how bad the next round may get. But this one really took me by surprise because of the faster ramping up of side effects. Okay CC buddies….what did you do to get past this? I know I”m almost to the end……I have one more gemcitibine this Wednesday….and then both infusions of round 6 in August….so just one more of the double whammy Cis/Gem once I’m past these side effects.
