    Hi,

My dad was in the hospital for the last four weeks. They found an infection with a streptococcus anginosus and received treatment for this. His chemo was delayed and the cancer spread to the liver and pancreas. Now he is at home,is ok,but has a persistent bloating.None of the medicine that he took didn’t help him so I am asking you about some remedies that worked for you or for your loved ones.At the ultrasound it appeared that he hasn’t ascites.. but this bloating is annoying.

    Thanks!

Hoping for your dad to feel better very soon also and hoping as well that the antibiotics start kicking in as well and doing their job. Let us know how everything goes please.

My best to you and your dad,

Paul…I too wish for your Dad to feel better. The chills may be related to the tumor, but only a physician familiar with this cancer will be able to determine this. Do you have access to the physician so that you can speak privately with him/her? Where is your Dad being treated?
    Hugs,
    Marion

    Hi,

When i said that my dad came home, i didn’t know that he was sent home by his request. I was dissapointed when I heard that because he needed a couple of days of careful care. Yesterday he had another episode of chills(without fever this time) and today started coughing(with fever). Because his oncologist is on vacation,we talked to another doctor to prescribe him an antibiotic ( because paracetamol wasn’t enough for him).

I hope he will be better the next couple of days.

    Hi Paul,

Glad to be of help and so glad to hear that your dad is now home again and is feeling better. Hoping as well that his recovery from this bout goes smoothly and the he continues with his recovery. You so did the right thing in getting your dad into the hospital quicker than what they said so well done on that one.

Please keep us updated on how things go for your dad and remember as well that we are all here for you.

My best wishes to you and your dad,

    Gavin

    Hi,
CCA is a cancer that there is no end to it in general. It is really llittle if any good chance to cure it unless further research can provide such in the future.
There is also no standard first line or second line chemotherapy for CCA. Whatever it works the oncologists will used it . It is also extremely difficult if not possible to just look at biopsy slide to determine what choice fo chemotherapy is best for next treatment. Therefore be aware of comments that most of the medical professional had made. It is easier for them to say this or that works. Chemotherapy for CCA now to to best I know is like ” try the most popular one that will work first and if not then try other regimens till one works. There are no consequence for the medical professionals to have if all the chemotherapies do not work or fail. They are no refunds or even exchange. No treatment is another option in treating cancer general.
    God bless.

    Hi,

Thanks for information,Gavin. My father was hospitalized three days ago because of persistent chills and loss of consciousness.I talked to the oncologist that day and she told me to come the next day with my father at the hostpital. But in that afternoon he was sick and we went to the hospital. After antibiotics, he had a blood transfusion and now is at home, better. It seems that because of his low immune system he had a flu and because of anemia he had low blood pressure.I talked to another doctor and he told me that treatment with taxotere is a good option for him(after he looked on the biopsy).

Now i hope that he will be better and better and do the next cycle of chemo.

    Thank you all,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Here are some links on anemia, I hope they are of use to you.

Have you spoken with your dad’s onc about the anemia? If not I would definitely do so as soon as you can. Please let us know as well what they say,

My best wishes to you and your dad,

    Gavin

Paul, I had surgery for ICC in Feb at Mayo…..tumor in left lobe was 5.00 cm by 4 x 4 ish. It was even done laparoscopically. There may be other reasons they don’t want to operate, but that size shouldn’t be one of them.

Paul…….when speaking with the oncologist, you might want to address your Dad’s current symptoms. I too wonder where your Dad is being treated? What other treatments were offered by the oncologist.

Good thinking, Paul. Perhaps that is also why no surgery as it seems to me that had done surgeries on a little more than 5cm. Where is Dad being treated?

I will ask the onc for sure because his anemia may be from an internal bleeding, from the portal vein thrombosis..

Paul, the only thing I know is Iron for Anemia but you really should call the ONC as you don’t want to start with anything that may interfere with the treatment that will be given. You can research Taxotere by typing it in our search engine at the top and posts will appear on that subject. IOn the meantime most CC patients find it easier to graze on food all day in small bits rather then eat big meals. Also my husband took Carnation Instant Breakfast as it can be used with a meal or to replace ay meal, it has all the needed nutrients. He favored the Vanilla and I would blend in a banana. Please ask the ONC though about the iron.

    Hi,

I spoke with other surgeon and for sure a surgery is not possible for him(his tumour is about 5 cm). Also radiotherapy is not possible for him because of his left portal vein thrombosis.. His hemoglobin is now 8(before treatment was 10) and it seems that the only possible treatment for him is chemotherapy. Tomorrow i will talk to another oncologist to see if taxotere is good for him.
Could you suggest some foods,supplements.. for anemia that worked for you?

Thank you for all your support and God bless you all,it is fantastic what you are doing here.

    Hi Paul,

Can’t help with personal experiences either with chemo as my dad never had any. I do however echo what Lainy and Darla have said re seeking further opinions re your dad’s treatment options. I know you say that the surgeon said that your dads CC was not now operable, have you sought further opinions re surgery from other surgeons? I know that we have members here or their loved ones who have went for more than one or two opinions on surgery. Please do not give up hope yet, we are here for you.

My best wishes to you and your dad,

    Gavin
