Oh, thank you everyone. I think I get it now. I should know more in about a week.
August 23, 2010 at 12:35 pm #40963scragotsMemberminnie305,
My tumor was 5.7×5.3 cm but was located totally within the “meat” of the liver so the doctor’s were able to resect it successfully with clean margins. I know I was one of the “lucky” ones. As you can see, it really does have to do with placement of the tumor. Best of luck to you and yours.

SueAugust 22, 2010 at 11:00 pm #40962dmeekSpectatorminnie305, as others have posted here, I believe a lot has to do with the location of the tumor as well. I had a 4.5-to-5cm tumor for my CC. I had a successful liver resection surgery.
Prior to surgery, the surgeon told me that only after they first open me up, and physically saw the tumor and its location, would they be able to know if surgery was possible. That being said, the size (and location) of my tumor allowed for my surgery.
My best to your and your husband.

August 21, 2010 at 11:00 pm #40961rayloguMembermy tumor was 2cm and located in the ampulla of vater (which was a new word in my vocabulary). whipple surgery removed the tumor completely although it did rupture through the small bowel and spread to one lymph node. what a difference in my 2 cm tumor and Lisa’s 2cm tumor as she described. location is the difference in treatment vs surgery. my best to you and your family. I too had a stint prior to surgery to open up a collapsed bile duct causing jaundice. the stint was removed during surgery and so far, 11 weeks post op I’ve not had any reccurance of jaundice.
my best to you and your family. recovery is a long process. keep in touch with this site and you will many words of encouragement, advice and support. my best to you and your family.. Ray, North CarolinaAugust 21, 2010 at 8:27 pm #40960lisaSpectatorAs Kris mentioned, most often the problem is with the location of the tumor rather than it’s size. I had only a 2 cm tumor, but they were unable to resect it because it was wrapped around the inferior vena cava (the major vein to the heart).
That was in March of 2008. I’m still alive and kicking! I do have mets to the lungs and now to the mesenteric area, an extention of the peritoneal wall which helps keep the small intestine in place.
If surgery is being discussed, I say go for it!
August 21, 2010 at 6:13 am #40959devoncatSpectatorThe size of the tumor has less to do with surgery than its placement. I had a very small tumor the first time. My surgons were willing to try a second surgery when I had a reoccurance and the tumor was the size of a large orange slice. Unfortuneately when the opened me up, the tumor was in a location that ruled out its removal.

August 20, 2010 at 7:56 pm #3914minnie305SpectatorMy husband was supposed to have surgery today but it has been postponed as he had an infection. They replaced the stint and the report says that the “stricture’ as they call it, is 4-5 CM Does anyone know what size the tumor was when they had it resected or knew someone who had it resected? It’s obviously growing as it was less than 3 cm when diagnosed three months ago.
