    Thanks Kristin,

I don’t think my Dad would like one as he already has an illeostomy bag BUT if the internal stent doesn’t work perhaps it may be an idea they could use to get his bilirubin level down for chemo. If Chemo shrank the tumor enough then perhaps it could be capped off or took out. My mind is probably working overtime but we just want chemo to start. Never thought I’d be wanting a loved one to start chemo so bad!

    Best wishes

I think an external drain would work practically anywhere, BUT they are a LOT of trouble– they can get blocked, infected, slip out of place, leak bile all over you clothes, fill up with blood, etc. etc. In four months, I have had every one of those things happen with mine. Having the drain has definitely improved my quality of life, but they can be VERY troublesome. Even the doctor said they’re “temperamental.” Other people have had much better experiences with theirs, so I hope they will add more information.

    Wishing you all the best!

Been with dad to see Doctor today, turns out it is not an infection has we hoped but his left stent is blocked. Back in Wednesday to sort it out, not sure whether they will do a ERCP or PCT again.

Question is, Dads tumor is in the middle of the Y section outside the liver, tumor is mainly located to the left. Dad has 3 stents which make up the Y shape. The 2 top stents fit into the bottom stent, therefore making the left side more narrow due to both the tumor and stent inside a stent. Doctor mentioned putting another stent in, how would this help, surely it would make it even more narrow.

Dad’s stents are metal so really shouldn’t block this quick, but apparently it’s just the left stent and tumor being in such an awkward spot that is causing all this trouble.

My worry is that Dad will never get his bilirubin to 50 for chemo. We were told today that this is our only option of treatment as radiation is a no. Could having an external drain fix this?

Sorry for going on but these stents are really beginning to take over my life!
