Seems that this particular posting escaped the rigirous eyes of our spam stoppers. Please continue to monitor the threads and report all concerns.
Thanks much to all for keeping our forum clean.
    Hugs,
    Marion

You should see Rick going after them on Twitter when he finds out who they are, a thing of beauty! Go Rick!!! :)

Eli….Rick is anything but fond of spammers. In fact, Eli, it irritates him to no end when people use this site for business purposes. He should be less busy soon and I am sure that he will address this annoying issue then.

That’s what I thought when I saw it. This is our little, safe haven. How rude of you darn spammer!!

Eli, I totally agree. How can someone be so callous as to come on to a site for Cancer and Spam. No conscience!

    Some spammers are very sneaky.

For example, see these posts by ‘Michael222’:

    http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=65624#p65624
    http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=65622#p65622

He started by posting a few generic messages in the Nutrition section on Sep 20th. He came back on Sep 25th and edited his own posts to add spammy links to a commercial web site.

Here’s another spammer (‘jimmy82’) doing the exact same thing.

    http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=63841#p63841
    http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=63842#p63842
    http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=63843#p63843
    http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=63870#p63870

Again, he started by posting a few generic messages not related to CC. Then he came back to edit his own posts. He added spammy links to ‘aged care homes’.

I reported all these posts as SPAM long time ago. Either Rick is too busy to clean them up (which is perfectly understandable!!!!!), or he doesn’t share my view on what constitutes spam.

These examples of spam are rather benign. It just irks me that some people are trying to make a buck off this site.

We had discussed it during our CCF Board Conferences. I am not aware of a definite solution to the problem, but Rick had implemented a set of stringent rules affecting new member sign-ups – consequently we have had a significant reduction of spam on our site. But things are changing constantly; I will keep you posted.

Gavin, thanks, I think you are right. Go Rick go!

As I understood it, but I could be wrong here, Rick liked to be the one to delete the spam and that way he would be able to try and see where the spams came from. But that was a while ago when we were constantly getting them and think that we have only had a few since these days. And I remember Rick hitting back at some of them on Twitter!! :)

We had discussed the above issue (numerous times) in our various board meetings. I don’t believe that Rick is against moderators taking on the task of removing spam from our site however; as of yet we have not worked out the details. Eli, given your extensive experience, is this a task you might be interested in handling?

Hi Eli, but I think there is a reason they want Rick to do it. “Us Moderators answer to a higher authority”. LOL They may keep track of the Spam or something, not sure. I know I am an over achiever when it comes to cleaning things up and I am afraid I may delete something that was really needed. Then again, your idea is not a bad one. Food for thought and thanks.

I wonder if Rick can tweak forum settings, so our fine Moderators can delete SPAM themselves, without waiting for Rick to act.
