Thank you thank you sooo much! I have been so worried about it. I try really hard to give it to the Lord, but occassionally I get worked up. I guess that is normal, as normal as it can be. I feel really good right now. Had a kidney infection and dehydration, but 3 hours of IVs and a week of antibodics, I feel so much better. I really wish I could give you all hugs and pray that we all fell better soon! My oncologist is baffeled as to why the markers are going up and the tumors are still shrinking, she suspects we’ll see a change in the near future. I have been so blessed and happy. Can’t get better then this! Thanks again :)

    cheryl,
having a high tumor marker doesnt mean you have cancer or that the cancer has spread..it is just a guide line the doctors use if they suspect cancer and then go on to perform other tests…..high tumor markers can mean any other illnesses, but contact the doctor and let him explain it to you…prayers ron and lucille

Cheryl ……I would like to follow Nancy, Kathy, and Susan by attaching the below links re: tumor markers.

Oh, and I wanted to also mention that this site appears to have less visitors on weekend. Please, do not think that anyone had been ignoring you rather, most people seem to take a break.
I believe that the value of tumor markers has and will be an ongoing discussion. In fact, our google search function will lead you to many threads. You might also want to read Marylloyd’s postings, as she brought up the subject often. Good luck.
    All my best wishes,
    Marion

I also do not have an answer. I have just heard that the higher the marker the more indication of cancer. Sorry. Stable is a really good thing. Blessings, Susan

My oncologist has told me they put more significance on how you feel, rather than the tumor markers. These are used along with other indicators. Some people have very high tumor markers and some have really low – and they are possibly in the same stage.

This is a question to ask the oncologist; but believe me, stable is excellent! I am stable (but with no shrinkage) and feel very blessed about that.

clkempf – I don’t know the answer to your question. Usually, the higher the CA-19 marker, the more advanced the disease. I am not sure why that would be if the tumors have not grown and are actually shrinking. You should probably pose this question to the doctor. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Best wishes- Nancy

What does it mean when a tumor marker CA-19 are rising, and tumors have not grown or spread since July. Tumors are still skrinking.
