    Reelhabit,

It sounds to me like you are doing fine…..just recovery not going as fast as you’d “like”. The naps are agood thing….and if you are sleeping from 8 p.m. To 6 p.m…..you are giving your body good healing time. Our bodies do their best repair work while we sleep. I don’t think it’s uncommon to not have an appetiite afteer surgery. I was not hungry after mine. If you’re drinking Ensure Plus, you are still giving your body needed nutrients. It sounds as though you have been an active, go-getter and it’s hard to be patient with your body, but as Marion said, …..recovery is usually slow and steady. Walk when you can and before you know it, you will realize that things have gotten better.

    Welcome to the boards. Julie

    Marion,

I have actually gained 8 pounds back, had lost 30. Still take a nap during day, sleep 8 pm to 6 am.

First 3 weeks after surgery had no appetite, drank Ensure Plus, several a day.

Don…. Recovery is not easy, but should be slow and steady. Try to remember to hold a pillow against your abdomen when coughing. How is your digestion coming along?

    Hugs

    Don,

Welcome to the discussion board. It is good to hear your recovery is going well.

When you say you are starting Gemzar, I am assuming this is an adjuvant treatment, namely post surgery to mop up any stray cancer cells. If so, if you have been reading through the discussion board, you may have seen the news stories this week about positive results from an adjuvant treatment using capecitabine. If you search “BILCAP” here or on google, you will see the press reports.

You may consider bringing this info to your oncologist, especially if he or she is not specialized in this rare cancer.

Best wishes for continued progress in your recovery.

    Regards, Mary

Tumor in upper common bile duct, carcinoma. Resection 7 weeks ago. CA19-9 @9, bilirubin @.6 and within range liver function. I’m 65 yo male, adopted but pretty sure of Indian decent . I have been trolling for a while, good luck to all.
