Thank you all for your feedback. While my husband has a 12cm tumor in one lobe of the liver and innumberable tumors of about 11.4cm in the other lobe, he does not appear to have any blockage. I don’t know how he will feel if a stent should become necessary. I will ask him about that. He gets occasional itching, but it passes. He had jaundice earlier this year, but none in the past 4 months. He does appear to be declining, however, as his nausea and vomiting increase. The weakness also is increasing. I appreciate your comments and we probably will not see the oncologist again, but will take our issues to our internal medicine doctor who has been a godsend over the past 4 months. Blessings, Susan

Stents were the one thing that seemed to bring my mother in law back to us. She has a golf ball size tumor in the bile duct and opting for no treatment. She had an external bag for about two months and was pretty much in the bed the whole time. The day the stent was put in…she walked from the car and up the stairs, the next day she was up around the house and the same week went for a walk on the beach. She needed the stent, and it made a WORLD of difference. I can only hope for something so simple for your husband. Perhaps another doctor’s take on this might be in order.

    Hi Slittle,

Is your husband jaundiced? My dad had jaundice and this was the first symptom that showed for him. He had a metal stent inserted to help open the duct so that the bile could start to flow again.

I am glad to hear that the increased dose of pain medication is working and that your husband is feeling better today.

Best wishes to you and your husband,

    Gavin

    Yes! No stent is good!

I don’t understand your oncologist’s statement that there wouldn’t be any condition that would require a visit the Emergency Room. If someone is undergoing chemo treatments, they need to be particularly careful with running a temp. Other members on the board have had blood clots that needed immediate treatment. Sometimes ER visits are necessary and can save lives.

Stents are required when there’s an obstruction in the bile ducts stopping the flow of bile. Symptoms are jaundice, itching, dark urine, clay colored stool among others. Blood tests will show elevated bilirubin along with other abnormal liver functions. No stent is good!

    God Bless!

My Dad had stents fitted due to jaundice. The tumour was in this bile duct and was blocking the flow of the bile, hence dad becoming yellow. If the bile is flowing there would be no need for a stent, I suppose it’s due to tumor location.

Glad the new pain meds are working, heres to more fun days!

    Best wishes

My husband has not had a stent, no one has mentioned a stent. Under what circumstances are stents used? When we asked the oncologist this week if there was any condition that would require we visit the Emergency Room, she said no. I don’t want him to need stents, but I was wondering about his increased ascites and the ever-increasing abdomen. His pain meds were increased yesterday and he feels so much better today. Thankfully. He was even teasing today which was really fun.
