Matt:
I’ve been looking for your post with an update on your sister. This sounds like very good news and i am thrilled for you and your sister.
Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.
Jeff:
Good luck on the scan. I always have MRIs and not CT. Hate drinking that crap for the CT and the IV is larger and harder to place. So MRI’s for me from now on. I sing row row row your boat while in the MRI tube and it makes the banging have a purpose! Here’s hoping for good news!

April 6, 2012 at 4:39 am #59797marionsModeratorMatt…within the five years being on this board, very few times only a lesser resection was required than had been anticipated by the surgeon. Congratulations. Indeed your sister is one very lucky lady. May her recovery be as speedy as the good news received.

I am heartened to read of good news on this site such as Matt’s wife’s successful surgery.
Tomorrow I have an MRI with and without contrast. If it’s unchanged, I am good for now. If there are changes, the cc is coming back to get me and I’ll find out how long my doc says I have since I am a non-treater.
I was scheduled for a CAT but wondered whether radiation from that test was really advisable. My onco told me an MRI is just as good with the only risk being the gadolinium’s effect on the kidneys. Since my kidneys are healthy, I changed from the CAT with and without contrast to the MRI with and without contrast. It’s a full abdomen and pelvis, so it’s 1-1.5 hours of loud, banging noise and confinement withing the MRI tube.
Next month I turn 65 and go on Medicare, so my medical costs go way down, and am ever glad! My pancreatic enzymes were running me $350/mo. and now will decrease to $81. In 2 weeks I go to Mexico for warm water and sand and look forward to doing little to nothing, something very chanllenging for my Type A/Type T personality.
May the scourge of cc be wiped from the face of the planet and all of us playing golf, on the high-dive or doing whatever it is we like to do without cc, I remain, yours,
Jeff G

It just doesn’t get any better than this. Yes, please keep us posted.April 6, 2012 at 3:20 am #6636justmattMemberVirginia’s surgery went well at Mayo yesterday. It was a long wait, but her husband and 2 of my sons were in the room when they wheeled her in. One of my boys called me right away and I was able to hear her over speakerphone. It was so nice to hear her voice. I spoke to her today and she was sitting up eating when I called. They had her walk down the hallway last night. Our oldest sister was able to go visit her today, and my other son is going to see her today or tomorrow. The surgeon said they were expecting to take up to 50% of her liver, but only needed to remove 20-25%. We couldn’t ask for better news! That being said, we realize how extremely lucky she is. If her endocrinologist had not noticed the mass when they were looking at her adrenal glands, this could have easily gone undiscovered for a long time, as you all know. So it was pure luck / divine intervention / whatever you want to call it. My heart goes out to all of you who don’t find out early, this is a horrible disease. Thank you again for all of your kind words of support, and I’ll keep you posted throughout her recovery.
