Bryron and Elsy…..they don’t know whether the supplements interfere with chemotherapy. Supplements do not fall under the same rulings as medications due. Therefore, no substantial studies have ever conducted on supplements. Yes, the manufacturer will provide some information however; it is not proven to be helpful. Stringent clinical trials provide scientific evidence that chemotherapy works for some however, adding another substance may or may not interfere with the efficacy of the product. Based on that the physicians prefer to stay clear of added supplements simply because, they don’t know whether it is beneficial or not. Go figure.
I hope this helped.
All my best wishes,

Everyone is different and howo they react to certain treatments is different. Sometimes, it’s easy to get discouraged with all the conflicting information and views. Thanks for that Byron.

I was told a couple of weeks ago by a pharmacist that I should not be taking vitamins during chemo because it would counteract what the chemo was trying to do. Everything I have read about how chemo works totally disagrees with this pharmacists view. I have been wondering about something. They always tell you….”let us know ALL medicines and supplements you are taking……….” to what end? So they can tell you not to take anything and rely solely on them. Why don’t they, instead, hand out a list of known substances that react poorly with whatever chemo agents you are taking. If their are known supplements that you should not take with gem/cis, then why don’t they give you a list of those particular supplements. Instead, they just assume that anything that is good for you is “bad for you”.

I appreciate your posts. Thank you so much. So grateful for all of you…
November 19, 2011 at 3:58 pm #54646pamelaSpectatorDear Elsy,
We were told by someone that curcumin and something milkweed? helped some guy overcome cancer. We asked the doctor about this and he said ABSOLUTELY NOT! I guess you can’t take anything while on a clinical trial or it could mess up the results. So, we continue with a multivitamin and that is it. I guess you should speak to your doctor to see what they advise.-Pam

Fingers are crossed for a quick turn-around and for treatment to continue real soon. Hang in there Elsy, we call this the great roller coaster ride of CC.
All my best wishes are heading your way,

Any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
