Just a quick note – we have received notice from City of Hope and Loma Linda that Randy is not a surgical candidate. We knew that, but felt for his mom’s piece of mind we had to check. We will now wait for information from City of Hope and Loma Linda from their oncology departments. If his tummy is swollen tomorrow, we’ll go to the doctor by Friday. Thanks for the comments. Blessings, Susan

December 8, 2010 at 8:49 pm #45320kimmieSpectatorHopefully, it’s as the others suggested – ascites or urine that they can drain off/out and give him some relief.
And I have to tell you, I HATED it when people made comments about my mom like that – “She doesn’t even look sick” or things like that. While that may have been true (she was overweight until the day she died, never lost her hair during chemo, and never had jaundice or any sort of swelling), the way people said it used to piss me off.
Keep us posted on how Randy’s doing!
December 8, 2010 at 7:57 pm #45319gavinModeratorHi Susan,
I also agree with what the others have said to you about getting Randy seen by a doctor. Is there any chance that you could get an appointment brought forward? And please, you do not have to apologise at all for anything.
My best wishes to you and Randy,
Gavin
December 8, 2010 at 7:05 pm #45318lsismanSpectatorMy husband’s tummy got really large over a few days. Turns out he was filing up with urine. They put a catheter in him and it all drained and he was back to normal. No idea if this related. He was with Hospice when this happened. To be honest, I told them about it and they knew what to do. Prior to hospice, it was not so large that we were alarmed to tell the doc.

Best wishes,
MarionDecember 8, 2010 at 5:35 pm #45316lainySpectatorHi my friend Susan. I am soo sorry to hear about the tummy. Your doctor has to be the one who orders Hospice so you may have to see him anyway. Not sure what the swelling is from but if it is that painful, perhaps a visit is in order.
December 8, 2010 at 4:40 pm #4444slittle1127MemberMy husband, Randy, was diagnosed in August 2010. Everyone who sees him says he looks better than they expected. While I think that is good, it feels like it diminishes what he is going through. The past couple of days he has again been very weak and nauseated. He takes a diuretic as needed for fluid retention, however, despite the diuretic, his stomach is huge. I mean really huge. A light touch on his stomach causes him pain. I know that the swollen liver is moving all other internal organs around, but I am wondering if we should be doing something about his stomach which appears to be increasing in size. Anyone have suggestions? Of course, we can go to the doctor, but frankly, that has not been the most productive thing we have done. Mostly we get pain control and that’s it.
We are waiting for a call back from City of Hope to see IF they will see him. Since both doctors have mentioned hospice, City of Hope says they may not see him. I explained that my concern is that our local physicians may not be familiar enough with CC to know what treatment options might be available. They agreed and so we wait to see if they will scheduled an appointment for him – at this point, we are seeking a second (third, fourth) opinion. We should hear in a week.
Sorry I’m rambling, but lots on my mind today. Thanks.
Blessings, Susan
