MemberI met w/ surgeon/ oncologist @ Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) yesterday. He discussed an implantable pump that injects high dose of chemo directly into the liver. Has anyone used this technique, know anything about it ? For me, he said it’s a future possibility & wants me to continue on my Gemzar / Xeloda regimen, since the CT scan showed some tumor death ( necrosis ) last time in center of tumor.

SpectatorI asked, because Joe Alioto (owner) is Teddy’s, like 3rd cousin. Really nice guy!

SpectatorLainy! Are you kidding me? What native San Franciscan has not eaten at Alioto’s. It’s an icon. Cold on the wharf though. I am thinking of you and Teddy basking (baking?) in that Arizonan heat. After Ahwatukee, I moved up to Fountain Hills for a couple of years. 10 degrees cooler. 107 instead of 117.

SpectatorHe is a lover of sun. With his Sicilian skin he is already tanned but since the cancer watches it carefully. I forgot you are in SFO> Teddy’s cousin owns Aliotos on the Wharf. Ever eat there? Its great!!

SpectatorHi Lainy! Can you put Teddy outside (maybe not in direct sunlight) with plenty of water so he won’t dehydrate? My mom used to love it when the sun shined through our car window onto her.

SpectatorWe just got home from the radiologist after almost a 2 hour visit. Talked with the dietitian who is at his office. Its like one stop shopping there. The radiologist is extremely happy with T and is ordering another PET Scan for June. I think the insurance company hates him. The hard “lump” is a small hernia caused from the Whipple Surgery. Not to worry, nothing to be done about it.
The bloating and gas could maybe be helped with a Pancreatic Enzyme which he has to go to an Internist for. This could aid in his digestion. All in all excellent news. I asked him about the accuracy of PET Scans and he said “its the best we’ve got”. But not perfect. He also has a new cyber knife machine called the Novella TX and it already makes the one used on T in December out dated. With the new one no more gold rod injections needed and it is even quicker than the one T had. The doctors face lit up when he talked about it. I also gave him a stack of our brochures. So for this moment in time are are good to go. We thank you for all your good thoughts and wishes, they certainly helped.
P.S> Do not know why he gets cold…….. -
