November 20, 2010 at 10:42 pm #44470lalupesSpectatorI’m very glad you’re more comfortable & that the kits (& Hans!) have you home with them. So many people who’ve never even met you love you loads – you are very special to all of us.

I’m glad things are going well in some respects, it sounds like you are getting lots of attention anyway! I don’t understand why they are goofy about hydrating you? I know Tom and I drink tons of water and whenever he is in the hospital they don’t push fluids either, actually he is npo much of the time for testing etc and he gets that dehydrated feeling. You need fluids to flush out all the bad stuff in your system and it might actually help lower your bilirubin. I know that it’s not a priority to healthcare people and it really should be! It’s good that you are able to rest comfortably with your kitties around you. Is your mother or sister there now? Take care Kris and know that we are all sendind our love your way! Well, the doorbell does not stop ringing in your house, it must seem like Grand Central station! I can picture you snuggled up with the kitties, sleep away!

Just to add to what Nancy said to you about a dry mouth if that is something that is an issue right now for you. My dad had a dry mouth and he was given artificial salivia and this helped him a lot, an awful lot in fact. And if this is an issue for you then maybe you could speak with your care team about this.
Hugs,
Gavin
November 19, 2010 at 11:15 pm #44466gavinModeratorHello Kris,
It is so good to hear from you and I am glad that you, hans and the kitties are now all at home together. And I know that Hans and the kitties will have missed you so much at home. Thank you so much for letting us know how you are doing right now.
And please do not worry at all for pulling back a bit with your involvement, you never ever have to aplogogise to anyone here, nor to you have to justify anything to any of us! I think of you so mch Kris, and I only think good and positive thoughts for you.And I so hope that you can get your paliative care team whipped into shape rapid, and if not, I will be on the next plane heading across the North Sea to help you with the prodding!
Hugs,
Gavin
November 19, 2010 at 11:11 pm #44465lisaSpectatorOh Kris, I wish you knew how much we love and care for you. Those nurses should be taking care of your every whim and treating you like a queen – but especially such basics as hydration!
November 19, 2010 at 11:06 pm #44464nur1954SpectatorP.S. Is it your mouth that is dry or are you feeling dehydrated all over???? There is a special mouthwash that helps retain moisture that is available here. I would send you a care package if you think that will help! Just say so and I’ll send it off….Nancy
November 19, 2010 at 11:04 pm #44463nur1954SpectatorKris – I was hoping to find a post from you. I understand your frustrations…..I have to agree with others — you may need to have a throne brought into your room for your comfort and ease and convenience (at least for now). You need to be aggresive with your nursing staff….they should be addressing ALL your needs, especially if you feel dehydrated! It’s so hard to keep up with all of this while you are tired all the time. Don’t worry about anything….just know we all love you and think of you each and every day. Hope your little kitties are sleeping right next to you and keeping you snuggly and warm. Hugs from NJ – Nancy
November 19, 2010 at 7:36 pm #44462lainySpectatorKris, what’s a gal to do? I watch Teddy and know what you are going through. I know you won’t like this suggetion but what about a Queen’s Throne in your room so you don’t have to fight the bath room doorways? Teddy now has a urinal but if he gets weaker I may have to order a King’s Throne. Glad to hear though that you are comfortable but that team needs to listen to you! Take care we love you!
November 19, 2010 at 7:11 pm #4355devoncatSpectatorI have been at home now about a week and I am still trying to adjust. Nurses come and go at all hours midnight, 3 am, 8 am, and then throughout the day.
I am not gett ing so many blod clots in my drain which is wonderful. Our flat has the bathroom downstairs and large thresholds at the doorways and I am not as yet managing to get my pole across them.
My bed is now adjustable and we purchased a small refrigerator for the bedroom so I can get drinks without to much hassle. Oh, a kettle too so I can make fruit teas for bedtime and when my tummy is upset.
Kitties are happy we are all home together.
The bad news is my bilirubin has decided to go up quite a bit. Plus, the paliative care team seems not so keen on giving me extra fluids and i feel so dehydrated. My chemo has been postponed because of low blood and potassium. My electrolytes are all over the place and the paliative care group needds to be prodded to go anything about it.
So that is all. Hope everyone is doing well. I have really had to pull baack my involvment since I am just so sleepy. Take care.
Kris
