Thank you all for the quick response and thank you for sharing your experiences with us. She’s 67 years young! The doctors do not feel having surgery would give her any more additional quality of life time and since she lost her husband to cancer after several major surgeries and recoop, she is determined not to go that route. She doesnt feel the major surgery and recoop will offer her much more time than things just taking their course . Although the dr’s have no said a time limit (thank goodness, there’s no stamp on her–borrowed that from the commercial). She’d rather have the stent and possibly radiation and have as much enjoyable time as possible. I am just concerned that all of a sudden she is so tired. She has no pain and the jaundice has been gone for about two weeks. I am just so shocked at how fast (just weeks) she went from full of live and vacationing, swimming everyday to being fatigued and tired after just moving around the house some. Just wondering if there is something else we should be looking at or asking about. Thank you all so much for your insight.

May I ask how old she is as that may have a lot to do with her decision as to no surgery. As for ‘what to expect’ it’s so very hard to say as everyone is so different. I would suggest that you read some of the older posts as they are good for knowledge and to get familiar with CC. Good luck and please keep us posted.
September 5, 2010 at 6:43 pm #41401gavinModeratorHi Isellure,
Welcome to the site, although I am sorry to hear about your mother in law. Is your mother in law jaundiced right now? If so then hopefully the drain and the stent will help clear this up and then she should start to feel a bit better. My dad was jaundiced and this was the first symptom that he showed before he was diagnosed with inoperable CC. He also had the drain and a metal stent inserted and once this started to wrok he started feeling a lot better. Once this was done, my dad had PDT as his treatment as he couldn’t have surgery or radiation either. Have the doctors talked with you about the possible treatment options other than surgery?
I am glad that you joined us all here as you will get a load of support and help from everyone, so please feel free to ask any questions that you have. I am sure that others will be along soon to offer their knowledge and experiences with you. I know that all of this is hard to deal with and yes it is sad. My dad was the same in the a few weeks beforen he was diagnosed he was like your mother in law, full of life, busy and active. Please don’t give up hope.
Best wishes to you and your mother in law,
Gavin

September 5, 2010 at 5:20 pm #3973isellureMemberMy mother-in-law was just diagnosed with bile duct cancer. She has received an exterior drain and goes in this week for the metal stent and ercp test. She is very tired and has no energy. I’ve read after chemo this is normal, but is this to be expected just newly diagnosed? Just 4 weeks ago she was active, busy and full of life. She is opposed to any type of surgery and dr’s feel the surgery would not extend any quality of life time compared to what she could have now. It’s so sad, she is the core of the family since they lost their dad to cancer years ago. Any help on what to expect right now just newly diagnosed is greatly appreciated.
