Agree with Duke. Perhaps at some time, you may want to have access to the paraffin preserved tissue for additional pathology studies.

    Suggestion:
Make sure you have an idea how much tissue is stored and where it is stored.

I had an adventure getting my excess biopsy material transferred from my local clinic to the Mayo Clinic. Mayo then used it all and I had to have another biopsy done to remove a lymph node to send to FoundationOne for genomic testing. Thank goodness for insurance. This may not be an issue if Sloan is going to do it all.

I would be sure to speak with the physician beforehand followed by watching closely the waivers to be signed prior to admittance and definitely prior to surgery.

    Hi,

Not sure if this will help; Mom was diagnosed 18 months ago and although we were not aware of it at the time, we have been told by multiple doctors that when they do the biopsy, they automatically keep a specimen of the tumor. We brought up testing again and the ONC said that as long as there was enough specimen saved in 2013, they could use it for the testing.

    Good luck,

My mom is going for her resection surgery next week. I’m still trying to do as much research as I can and I’m wondering what information is available about tissue (tumor) storage and subsequent testing. Sloan Kettering has a trial called IRB Protocol # 06-107. As it was explained to me, participating in this trial allows for the storage and research use of human biospecimens. This seems to be the only option for tissue storage at Sloan and to subsequently be part of another trial for performing genetic analysis.

Does anyone have any opinion/information on participating in this trial or in seeking out private tissue storage? We’d hate to discard valuable tissue or give up any rights to use this tissue in the future should it become useful.

    Thanks so much!
