Oumayahaj…..fantastic complete response to treatment. Congratulations. I agree with Catherine, in that a second or more opinions are warranted. Specialists disagree with their approaches however; those in high volume centers are bound to have experienced similar situations such as your Mom’s.

Additionally, is her physician attending ESMO, Barcelona? This meeting is comprised of several thousand physicians and researchers, many with experience focused on Cholangiocarcinoma.

    Hello,

My mother is at a similar point, but from SIRT (radiation) treatments rather than chemo. When we first came to the point that there was no live tumor showing on PET or CT and blood work all looked good, her doctors recommended to stay off chemo and continue with scans and blood work every 3 months. Her doctor said that chemo is very hard on the body, and she did not see anything to treat, so we have been on a treatment break and enjoying life until we see it progressing again.

I am so happy that your mom has also had such great results. Can you get a second opinion?

    Best Wishes,
    Catherine

Hi and welcome to our fabulous family! I can’t answer questions about chemo as my husband had surgery and no chemo. But I definitely want to give your Mom a huge YIPPEE for beating the odds. She is remarkable. Others will be along to talk about their situations and hopefully it will help you decided what path to take. Please keep us informed of your Mom’s progress and YIPPEE!

Last October my mom suffered from severe stomache, it was her first time to feel such a pain. After doing several tests, echo, scans and a biopsy, she was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma. The cancer has been there for two years. The doctors refused to do her a surgery and they gave us no hope. They said she only had a couple of months to live. They gave us the choice whether to start chemotherapy or not since it would only sooth and limit the spread of the tumor. Ofcourse we decided to let her start with chemo, it was our only open door. On 19 November 2014 she started chemotherapy taking cisplatin and gemcitabin 3 times per month. After 3 months, the pet scan stated that the tumor was reduced and ever the tumor marker decrease from 570 to 180. 3 months later, last month, the pet scan didn’t realize any remarkable tumor on the liver, the tumor marker decreased to 20 and it’s still decreasing. The doctors assured that my mom’s liver was entirely clean. The only problem we faced was that the doctors refused to stop chemotherapy since they didnt face any similar case before and not to have any risk of having the cancer back in her. Today, her body is tired of the drugs getting into her, but thanks to God, she didnt suffer from any severe pain neither from hair loss.

If any had encoutered a similar case, a total relief from cholangiocarcinoma through chemotherapy only, was the patient able to stop the chemo after knowing the result?
