Summer…..welcome to our special group. Given the fact that your Mom’s disease has metastasized a complex surgery is not likely to happen. I recall one posting in where surgery was ruled out but the physician (German) went ahead and applied HIPEC. You may want to use the “Search” function by entering the keyword (HIPEC) to read the posting. Let us know if you need help in locating.

    Summer,

Kathy was set for HIPEC during her resection but they found no positive peritoneal nodules during the surgery so HIPEC was not performed. It may not have been suggested for your mother though because if they think the tumor has spread outside the liver (depending on the type such as intrahepatic or extrahepatic) they may think that it has metastasized past the point of resection. If it helps, HIPEC was only offered by the surgical team at Mt Sinai out of the 3 NYC surgeons Kathy met with.

    Hi everyone,

My mum has cholangiocarcinoma with small peritoneal nodules.

The main issue we are currently having is knowing the exact location of the tumor. We have been told different things each time we ask. I know that much depends on the exact location etc….. we believe it is in the distal region but again the exact information has not been clarified.
I am also wondering why HIPEC for the peritoneal has not been suggested for the peritoneal with a resection? The main line of treatment at the moment seems to be going to be Gem/Cis.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank you very much,
    Summer
