Hi Colin,
I’m a caregiver for my wife. She is the one with CC. She had her surgery here in Ottawa at The Ottawa Hospital.
Dr. Fady Balaa investigated my wife’s case when her symptoms showed up.
Dr. Richard Mimeault did the surgery. We picked him based on the recommendations from our family doctor and a family friend who is an operating nurse at the hospital.
Both these surgeons are very familiar with CC. They see a large volume of patients with the cancers of liver, pancreas and bile ducts.
I believe you need a referral from a physician to arrange your first consultation.

EliMay 23, 2013 at 6:18 pm #72476marionsModeratorcbenner……welcome to our site. The fact that you are feeling well is a good sign especially since you have already undergone several treatments. As you may know, Thailand has the highest occurrence of this disease, globally and quite a bit of research is done in that country. In fact, the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation supported research by funding a grant to Dr. Surbpong Tanasanvimon:
http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/media.htm
Based on a conversation I had with him and given the project results together with previous data, he believes that liver-fluke associated cholangiocarcinoma in Thailand is different from cholangiocarcinoma in USA in term of their biology.
Treatment options however; (I believe) don’t differ much from what is being offered in other countries. Having said that, dear cbenner, obtaining a second, professional opinion is a good idea.
It may very well be possible to forward your medical information to a physician/s “very” familiar with this cancer without physically being present.
Please, keep us posted.
Hugs,

I have been diagnosed with cc and am in Bangkok getting treatment as I live here currently although I am Canadian. They are are unwilling to operate as the mass intersects with a major artery going to the liver and I am thinking of returning home for a second opinion.
Does anyone know of any hospitals in Ontario with any experience or success in dealing cc?
Greatly appreciate any ideas.
I have completed radiation and chemo, have as liver drain and am feeling pretty good all round.
