Hi Kris
What a great surgeon and oncologist you have, to be so much on your side. Can they not influence the home health team? It just seems so obvious that being at home and sleeping in your own bed is a better place to be.
Good luck with the German referral and I hope that home health come to their senses.
best wishes
JemimaNovember 9, 2010 at 10:08 pm #43966andieSpectatorHow frustrating for you. Sending you lots of positive vibes for the Germany referral, having an oncologist on your side is half the battle.
Keep postive and never give up hope, you are a fighter and I hope you find many open windows and doors.
Much love
Andrea
November 9, 2010 at 9:57 pm #43965sunshinecaregiverMemberHi, Home health care can come out as long as they provide a nursing survice/therapy/or perform a medical nursing task. They can check dressings and change them, give shots/medications and if all you need is a person to check bp, temp, and weight they don’t come. Move to Florida! We would take care of you.
November 9, 2010 at 9:43 pm #43964kimmieSpectatorI’m sorry to hear about the seemingly necessary negotiations with the home health care folks. But it is great to hear that you have a wonderful team with your surgeon and oncologist.
I love Lainy’s analogy – here’s praying you find the right key. If anyone can, I think it would be you.
Love from across the pond,
KimNovember 9, 2010 at 9:21 pm #43963lisaSpectatorWhy must they make it so difficult for you? You have patiently put up with all the crap, been incredibly brave under the worst conditions, and are trying to co-operate with their programs. ARG! I am frustrated for you.

If anyone can open these doors then I am sure that it is you that can!
I do like the sound of Val’s plan in sending a troublesome boar as a present to the home health care team! That would show them not to mess with you!
Thinking of you loads and sending positive thoughts your way.

Red tape is a pain in the butt frankly.
Could you send the troublesome tulip eating boar to the home health care team as a gift? That might liven them up a little!
Good luck with the German expedition in the mean time, here’s hoping for a positive response.

Sounds like you need an assist with a jail break, do you want me to send you a file in a cake?
Seriously, it seems ridiculous to make you go back every night, I think you should ask to speak to someone in the Common Sense Department.

I’m sorry that the Home Health Team are being ridiculous. I cannot believe that they are throwing up so many roadblocks to your going home. It really makes me angry when health care professionals do not do all they can to support their patients. Sleeping in your own comfy bed would help. Well I’m just gonna start praying that someone knocks some sense into them and that the doors are kicked wide open not just half opened windows . I hope you get news on Germany soon. Know that you have lots of prayers coming your way. Take care and God Bless,
JamieNovember 9, 2010 at 5:04 am #43958lainySpectatorHi Kris, I couldn’t sleep tonight either. I am thinking that the doors may be closed but you still hold the key. You just have to find the one that fits among all your keys! Always thinking about you!
November 9, 2010 at 4:22 am #4287devoncatSpectatorI have now been in the hospital working on 6 or 7 weeks. I have been waiting to be discharged into the home health care team for about 2 weeks. They are supposed to take me however they decided they dont want me. They want me to stop treatment before they will agree. My surgeon and oncologist are happy and want me to continue treatment. I am weak and have no muscle strength to speak of yet my only real problem is nightime pain and that I can only have iv food.
So negotiations are taking place between the home health care team and my surgeon. So far nothing. It looks like for the time being, I will get to go home during the day and come back to the hospital to sleep at night and get all my iv goodies. My surgeon said something about this possibly being a long term thing. I am a little frustrated since the home health team is not following their own guidelines by declining to take me on. I would be really good to sleep in my bed again.
We are still in the process of transcribing documents and getting copies of ct scans to send to clinics in Germany. The good news on that front is my oncologist supports this decision and will write a supporting letter to see if the government will pick up the tab for some complimentary medicine. Still looking for the half open window among all the closed doors.
Kris
